Argentina and the Dutch Move On, World Cup Semis Set

With Argentina's win over Belgium and Costa Rica's loss to the Dutch on penalty kicks, the World Cup Semifinals have been set.

The winners of yesterday's games, Brazil and Germany, are set to face-off on one side of the bracket on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, the Dutch take on Lionel Messi and Argentina to set up Sunday's World Cup Final.

Earlier in the day, Gonzalo Higuain's strike 8 minutes in to the match was enough for Argentina to move on to the semis.  Lionel Messi's fancy feet got him enough open space to find Angel Di Maria, who sent a pass meant for another Argentinian, but the ball took a fortunate bounce to the feet of Higuain, who buried a strike to get the only goal of the game.

Meanwhile, the Dutch and the Costa Rican 'Ticos' played 120 scoreless minutes before settling the game on penalty kicks.  Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal made a head-scratching decision to switch goaltenders heading in to the penalty kick stage of the game, but in the end, it paid off.  Dutch substitute goalie Tim Krul relieved starter Jasper Cillessen and made two key saves in helping the Dutch reach the semifinal.

You'll be able to hear both seminfinal matches on our sister station, ESPN 1520.

The World Cup Final will take place next Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM.  You'll be able to hear coverage of that game right here on WGR.

Except For The Diving
The world cup tournament has been great, in my opinion. But the diving has been down right funny for me and down right embarrassing for the players doing it. Do they not realize that it is shown a hundred times in super slow motion which makes them look like total wussies.

This must be put on here in Error
This is a Bills and Sabres site. Not a soccer site. Soccer don't belong on here. Get rid of it!

If report of Toronto bid being maxed out at $1.2 billion is true, what would you think?
Toronto is dead. The Buffalo Bills are here to stay!!!!
I'd still be guarded. What if a bidder comes out of nowhere?
