Bills' Merriman Practicing, Dareus Not on Field
For the first time since the new A-Turf was installed at Ralph Wilson Stadium, the Buffalo Bills took to the field to practice on their new playing surface.
But the Bills first practice on the snazzy new field with blue end zones had a notable absence. After injuring his calf during Wednesday's practice, first round pick and defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was not on the field for the team.
Dareus told Kiss 98.5 this morning that it is a bruised calf due to someone kicking it during practice. He received treatment on Wednesday and they elected to stop him for practicing the rest of the session. Dareus was not on the field in any capacity.
Without Dareus, the defense did have one of their big guns back practicing. Outside linebacker Shawne Merriman took to practicing during the individual portion of the session.
Roscoe Parrish, Naaman Roosevelt, Donald Jones, Johnny White, Arthur Moats, Reggie Torbor, Ed Wang, Kellen Heard, Chris Kelsay and Shawn Nelson also were not practicing. Parrish was taking part in some stretching activities with the wide receivers. Moats and Nelson were both working with trainers individually. Moats tried to sprint from one sideline to the other, but couldn't get the proper push off his injured right knee.
Kirk Morrison was not in attendance, as the deal has not even been announced by the Bills to this point.
