Report: Bills' Dareus arrested in Alabama
The Buffalo Bills and the rest of the NFL have under two days to go until the start of the 2014 version of the draft, and they were putting all of their focus into those efforts. At least, that was until Tuesday night.
According to WVUA-TV, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested in Cleburne County in Alabama. Multiple reports indicate that Dareus was arrested on Monday night for felony possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Travis Leder, who works for the station that originally broke the story, reported that the substance was synthetic cannabis or "spice." After Dareus' arrest he was released within an hour.
The Bills commented on the story Tuesday night around 11 pm through the team's Senior Vice President of Communications Scott Berchtold:
"All we know right now is what we have seen in media reports and we will continue to look into this."
The former third overall pick, Dareus just had the fifth-year option of his contract picked up by the team for the 2015 season. He was disciplined twice at the end of the 2013 campaign for what a league source called being "habitually late" to team meetings.
