Bills' Byrd listed as questionable, will travel

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- Since the start of the regular season, the Buffalo Bills have been taking a wait-and-see approach when it comes to franchised safety Jairus Byrd. Stricken by plantar fasciitis in both feet, Byrd was designated as 'questionable' for the Week Three contest against the New York Jets, an upgrade from the 'doubtful' tag he held for each of the first two weeks.

"We all understand it is a condition. It's a condition that he's working extremely hard to get better, and it is getting better," head coach Doug Marrone said on Friday. "It's always going to be tough for me because I think it's going to be one of those points where when he says 'I'm ready to go,' he's going to go. So I don't want to misinterpret where he's at."

All Byrd has been able to do in practice through the first three weeks has been doing some work with the scout team during positional drills. The safety has been labeled as a limited participant in all nine sessions, without taking many meaningful reps during the workouts at One Bills Drive.

Marrone said Byrd will make the trip to New Jersey and be with the team, just in case Byrd is ready to play. The coach said there has been some progress in the safety's condition.

The upcoming game against the Jets is the first road test of the season for the Bills. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 pm at MetLife Stadium between the pair of 1-1 teams.
