Pittsford, NY -- As the Buffalo Bills unveiled their brand new practice field to the media at St. John Fisher College on Monday, team CEO Russ Brandon spoke for the first time since a report with quotes from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz came out regarding a new timetable. At first hoping to have a deal done before training camp, Poloncarz recently told The Buffalo News that they're now shooting for after the season.
With the lease set to expire in July of 2013, Brandon spoke highly of the negotiations to this point in time, calling them meaningful and thoughtful discussions.
"We've had very good dialogue with the county with County Executive Poloncarz, we're going to continue that dialogue throughout the course of the end of the summer and in to the fall," Brandon said Monday. "We'll keep our discussions ongoing."
When asked if the timetable put out by Poloncarz was accurate, Brandon quickly shielded away.
"I'll let him keep putting out the timetables," he remarked. "It's improper use of a pronoun. It's party, not parties. They keep putting out timetables, we're not putting out a timetable other than we're continuing discussions."
Clearly not as willing to delve in to any issues besides saying there has been dialogue, Brandon was consistent and unwavering in his stance when asked if part of the negotiations was the "ironclad" clause that would make it extremely difficult to move the team out of the area over the span of the new lease.
"I'm not going to get in to any of those negotiations," the CEO said. "That's what they just are: negotiations and they're discussions that need to be kept private and from our standpoint nothing is going to come out from the media. It needs to be a conversation between the County Executive and their team, and our team."
As for now, Brandon said the Bills will continue to operate and work under the conditions of the lease that expires in a little less than a full calendar year.
The players check in to training camp on Tuesday, will take part in conditioning on Wednesday and then have their first practice scheduled for Thursday.
