Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- One day removed from the Buffalo Bills holding a practice without quarterback Thad Lewis, history once again repeated itself. Lewis was held out for the second straight day due to sore ribs, and his status for Sunday still hasn't been revealed.
"Not at this point," head coach Doug Marrone said after the session. "We're still not ready to make a decision right now until we get more information."
On Wednesday night, reports from both ProFootballTalk.com and NFL.com surfaced that Lewis was expected to play in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Without being asked, Marrone put his own two cents in about them.
"I spoke to Thad, I spoke to the trainers," he said. "I know there was a report out there from a league source. I'm hoping the league source is right. Because I really don't know right now. It's 50-50. Trust me."
In the case that Lewis can't play, the Bills will choose between undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel and veteran Matt Flynn to get the start. Tuel has been with the team the longest to this point, and probably has the strongest case to start between the two options. Marrone said they're doing their due diligence though.
"There are some things that are going on. I'm gonna keep that private just for schematics of what's going on," he remarked. "Both players are taking reps though, and both of them are doing a nice job."
If Lewis can practice on Friday, it still isn't a guarantee that he'll start. Marrone said it would depend on how the quarterback looks during that practice that will prompt the decision.
The Bills get back on the field in Orchard Park on Friday morning.
You can't be serious about making a run this season if you trot Jeff Tuel out there. A win Sunday and this team is right in the thick of the playoff race. Putting Jeff Tuel out there would be a disgrace to Bills fans and players alike. Its not Jeff's fault - he is just not an NFL caliber quarterback.
"Veteran" Matt Flynn
Why do people call him that? He has played 2 career games. Thad is more of a veteran than him.
if he is still sore friday. the best thing is to do is sit him. because if he go in that game and they hit him there, he's either going to throw a interception, or fumble. and that going to be real bad way to start off vs and 8 and 0 team. you dontwant to take kc lightly. some people say they haven't play any body. but they always play hard vs the bills. play to win ruff buff.
Marrone are you joking??????????
Sore ribs, hardly can breathe, down sick with the flu, weak, just feels terrible, missing practice all week. But he might just be ready Sunday for the undefeated Chiefs?
Just borrowing this space (Hamilton blog preview)
Hamilton can't leave a comment line, so I'll just borrow this slot. Mr Softee in goal??? You got to be kidding me. AGAIN??? To summarize…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What's wrong with Enroth? I thought we're rebuilding. It would be a good idea to see if Enroth can be a #1 goalie. All good questions. I don't get it. This is a Joke whats going on with goaltenders. Might as well let Enroth rot on the bench and go stale and make him fail like Ruff did to him and his confidence goes shot. Miller has stunk his last few starts besides. Time for a change. WHAT A JOKE!!! FIRE REGEIR!!!
you might as well, give enroth his fair time on the ice. since you going to trade miller anyway. but what their trying to do. is to make miller look bad. Like isaid before let miller go another team; so he can have a chance to at lease try to get a cup. Its really sad for me to say that; but miller just dont have nobody their to help him. So change is good. for him but the sabres its going to be a long time comming. Before we see our team back on top. REGEIR; you are just not getting the job done period. you and the coach. and we know as fans. AS long as you two are there we are going to lose. Make you want to cry some times.
The Howard Simon Show and Hockey Hot Line on Sabres
WHAT A JOKE! Nothing further.
Start Tool Time and let Al Borland play running back.
Matt Flynn has appeared in 3 NFL games. He's been in the NFL for 5 years. He has thrown for 10 TDs and 6 ints.
He is more of a veteran than Jeff Tuel. Give him a break.
Why the hockey comments here? This is a Bills football blog.
Nobody can say that Jeff Tuel is not an NFL caliber QB. Nobody knows that yet. He has only had ONE quarter of an NFL game experience for Chrissakes! After not having reps all that week. Give him a chance. If he wasnt any good I am sure Marrone would havegot rid of him by now.
