Bills haven't been contacted about Spiller

The tradewinds are blowing with plenty of rumors popping up about Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller. All the speculation, as much as it has increased, is still only that according to the man ultimately in charge of pulling the trigger on any deal.

"We have not been contacted by any team about C.J. Spiller," Bills GM Doug Whaley said quite plainly at Saint Vincent College ahead of the first of two joint practices with the Pittsburgh Steelers. "These rumors are news to me."

Spiller has been a hot topic for some, with the first insinuation implying that the Bills could be fielding plenty of offers for their former first-round pick as early as this month. That, in concert with some basic roster logic could help get plenty of people to believe that the running back could potentially be on the move if the right deal comes along.

Spiller, who has an electric second-step is going into the final year of his contract with the Bills. Despite his age (27) and the data that points to the age 28 as the biggest drop-off point for most running backs, the former top ten selection could be a relatively hot commodity if available.

Whaley played any of the talk off even more.

"I'll tell you guys, and you know I'm a straight shooter. We have not been contacted by any teams," the GM said. "I can probably see where people see our depth at running back and try to connect the dots with teams that don't have depth, but, again, nobody has talked to us."

The depth is the other part of it. In addition to Spiller, the Bills still have Fred Jackson, Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon on the roster to give them one of the deepest groups they've had at the position in many years. But until Whaley and the Bills get a call about him, and it's an offer that sweeps them off their feet, the running back likely isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Spiller rushed for 933 yards and two touchdowns in 2013 while dealing with a high ankle sprain for much of the season. He is listed at the top of the running back depth chart for the Bills.

Do NOT Trade Spiller
He is by far one of the most talented players on this roster. He has been a model NFL player and WANTS to be in Buffalo. If the Bills do not re-sign Spiller I will lose all faith in this team.

No Matter What
don't trade any of the backs !!!!!! there is no position that needs a player change EXCEPT Quarterback- let this group of running backs stay as they are- the Bills just might need all 4 most teams would dream of having these 4 guys- EJ will need allthe help possible and with an awesome ground game he should be able to play without being chased around the backfield- DON'T OVERTHINK THIS

Sounds Right
There is probably a lot of truth to this as the Bills usually ditch their best players

Spiller
They're crazy if they have any intentions of trading Spiller unless a polished quarterback comes back this way. That would make me think of saying I can handle that. Otherwise Spiller stays here. End of story.

Maybe
We can get a QB for him?

CJ is expendable
He had one good season. Not great just good. He is hobbled by injuries almost 3/4 of a season limiting his carries. Though he plays with the injuries and misses few games, his production is diminished. His goal is 1000 yards this year. Whaaaaaaaa? That's 62 yards a game. Can he raise the bar a little higher? Chalk this guy up with Jarius Byrd. All hyped up by the local media.

CJ Trade not gonna happen
Bills brain trust will not give up CJ for a draft pick. With the ownership issue uncertain, they may all be gone next year without a playoff birth. They need a proven player to do that.

They would trade him
They would trade one of their most electric players before season started. Then we can watch him back to his 2012 form with some other team. Come on guys they guy was hurt all last year and was in a new offense at least give him another year!!!

Ha
If we can expect a "drop-off" next year, we should get what we can from spiller. What an epic bust he turned out to be.

Trade Him
Bills terribly out of balance. They should trade CJ for depth. Both Brown and Dixon are strong talents to keep the running game top notch. The likelihood that an extension for CJ does not make cap sense further supports now is the time to deal.

Wordplay
Obviously, the Bills would be willing to entertain offers. Notice how Whaley keeps saying "We have not received any offers for C.J." But what he's NOT saying is "We are not looking to trade C.J. Our plan is to keep C.J. in a Bills jersey beyond this season..." Sounds like he's on his way out to me.

Lynch for a 4th, Spiller for a 5th
I don't have faith in this team and don't remember the last time they made a good trade. I don't even know the name of the GM. Further, I don't care. I admit I lost my heart following the four Super Bowls.

4 backs
Dump EJ and play single wing with 4 backs.
