Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- The Bills had just one morning practice with their rookies. When practice was over, Dick Jauron addressed the team, but one of the young players did too. First round pick Aaron Maybin gave his new teammates a short speech before it was over.
One of the things Jauron likes about these three days is the individual attention the young players get with the coaching staff. Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell says that is invaluable because when the veterans arrive, it'll all be different. Fewell said they didn't throw too much at the players as far as the play book. They have a few plays that they mastered and he will be sending them work sheets to do until they're back.
There were quite a few players here on tryouts. Jauron said many impressed and he thinks five to ten could be invited back for OTA's.
Quarterback Cullen Harper out of Clemson struggled on day one, but showed well on Saturday and Sunday.
Fourth round pick Shawn Nelson got a lot of attention from tightends coach Charlie Coiner throughout. The TE seems rather raw. Coiner was working on his precision both with route running and turning up field after the catch. It actually got to the point where Nelson was trying to get away from him as he was speaking with him after every play.
