Capitals Name Barry Trotz New Head Coach

After missing the playoffs and finishing fourth in their division, the Washington Capitals fired coach Adam Oates shortly after the season ended. Their search for a new coach ended today as former Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz was named the new head man this afternoon. Trotz will become the 17th coach in Washington's history, after spending the past 15 years behind the bench in Nashville.

"This is a great organization with a strong foundation and a tremendous fan base. I look forward to working with this group of talented players and the quality front-office staff this team has assembled." Trotz said in a press conference this afternoon. In addition to Trotz being named head coach, the team promoted Brian MacLellan to senior vice president and general manager, majority owner Ted Leonsis and president Dick Patrick announced Monday.
