Flyers Roll Sabres 5-2

Brayden Schenn scored twice and Mark Streit added three assists as the Flyers ripped the Sabres on Sunday 5-2. Zac Rinaldo was tossed from the game after elbowing Chad Ruhwedel in the side of the head.

The Flyers jumped out to the lead when Matt Read banged home a rebound at 13:30 of the first. Mark Streit's shot rang off the post and Read was there for the follow up, putting Philadelphia ahead 1-0. Rinaldo scored for the first time since January 8th to make it 2-0 in the second period, a one-timer that beat Nathan Lieuwen glove-side.

Schenn found the net on the power play, capitalizing on the second of Jamie McBain's back-to-back penalties. Later in the period, Vincent Lecavalier's wristshot deflected off Mike Weber's stick and into the net, giving the Flyers a 4-0 advantage after two periods.

Rinaldo was slapped with a match penalty early in the third after lunging and elbowing Chad Ruhwedel in the side of the head. The penalty earned Rinaldo a game misconduct and gave Buffalo a five-minute power play, during which Cody Hodgson took advantage. Hodgson got the Sabres on the board for the first time, redirecting a Christian Ehrhoff shot past Mason. Schenn's second of the evening put Philadelphia ahead by four and Mike Weber potted his first of the year with a little over two minutes remaining to make it 5-2.

Lieuwen finished 32 saves while Steve Mason faced only 19 shots, stopping 17 of them. The Sabres return home on Tuesday to face the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.m. Hear the call on WGR 550 and the Buffalo Sabres Radio Network.
