Panthers Beat Sabres 4-3 in Shootout

The Sabres suffered their second consecutive shootout loss on Tuesday, falling to the Florida Panthers 4-3. Rasmus Ristolainen recorded 2 points, a goal and an assist, while Jaromir Jagr racked up 3 points en route to a historic milestone.

Scoring

  • The Panthers struck first on Alexsander Barkov's 8th at 16:09. Johan Larsson failed to tie up Barkov in front of the net and the Florida forward gathered his own rebound for the 1-0 lead.
  • Keith Yandle made it 2-0 at 12:14 of the 2nd period, a shot from the blue line. Jaromir Jagr assisted on the goal and screened Robin Lehner on the play.
  • Sam Reinhart cut the lead in half on the power play about 2:30 later, deflecting Rasmus Ristolainen's point shot.
  • The Sabres struck again only 70 seconds later on Evander Kane's 6th. The Buffalo forward slammed home a loose puck in the crease, tying the game 2-2.
  • Ristolainen put Buffalo on top for the first time at 12:19 of the 3rd, but Nick Bjugstad tied it up a little less than 4 minutes later.
Game Notes
  • The Sabres allowed an opponent to score the game's first goal for the fifth straight game.
  • With his 3 assists, Jaromir Jagr moved tied Mark Messier for 2nd place on the NHL's all-time scoring list (1,887).
  • Rasmus Ristolainen has 11 points (3 G, 8 A) in his last 7 games.

Lehner is GARBAGE
Gives up the tying goal laying on his face then as usual can't stop a single shot in the shootout.
12/20/2016 10:45PM
How did this happen?
Lehner isn't bad, just sucks at shootouts Pathetic how they let this game get away from them
12/20/2016 10:52PM
Don't Tell Me
Another loss, and in a shootout and the opposition scored 2 goals on 2 shots in the shootout.Just like the other day. Well one thing's for sure, they are consistent.

Roster...
...construction problems keep rearing their ugly head: Sabres 2nd and 3rd line defensemen (Kulikov, "bone head" Bogosion, and Gorges) are awful(probably rank at bottom of NHL). Also, not enough speed, finish, & tenacity on the forecheck (and backcheck on the 1st goal), lack of shootout scorers, poor shootout goaltending, and overall below average goaltending (Lehner for a #1 pick? GMTM was taken to the cleaners). Outside of Risto and McCabe they got big problems on defense, which will hold them back from making the playoffs.
12/20/2016 11:36PM
A certainty !!!
The Sabres will lose the shootout. Bogosian will be involved in a critical goal scored on the Sabres.
12/20/2016 11:51PM
Upon further review :
Eichel looks like he's skating in sand !! or he's afraid to get hit at top speed. Bogosian's hockey sense and skills are really limited ! And his contract is going to be a serious problem in the future. Ryan O'Reilly has the touchof a blacksmith !! This team will be a lottery team again when the 2017 draft rolls around !!!!!
12/21/2016 12:39AM
I don't get it!!!
What the heck? WHY is Lehner "number 1"??? Nillson has better stats all around, and Lehner has not made even ONE save in shootouts! Come on! What is this "TANK" time again? Obviously, since the suckier goaltender plays while the better one sits!
12/21/2016 4:33AM
great effort rough buff.
Ok we didn't get the win, But we will take that point any day of the week. Just win baby just keep on wining.
12/21/2016 6:12AM
Has Lehner
Ever stopped one shootout attempt?
12/21/2016 8:18AM
Swiss Cheese Shootouts...
Robin Lehner for a #1 pick... GMTM should be fired for that one alone. And we won't get into the atrocious 2nd and 3rd line defensemen Gorges, "Badgosion", and Kulikov.

Time for Changes
Bylsma is not the coach we need. Two years and we still cannot pick up the open player in front of the net. When the defense is outnumbered how hard is it for a forward to come down low and cover, hockey 101 but the coach cannot teach that or the players are just stupid. GM must go, we cannot afford to pay AHL players to practice here because of salary cap, are you kidding me? Why are we so high in salary with a bottom of the league team, bad trades and contracts on Murray's watch. You can practice shootouts all you want but how is a goalie going to get better when the shooters stink themselves. Blow it up and start over, Murray made some bad moves and contracts that will keep us in the bottom of the league. We should be ahead of the Maple Leafs not even with them.
12/21/2016 10:45AM
What they said
What they said above. Something is not right. Except I think it has more to do with the GM.
12/21/2016 11:12AM
lehner is the no. 1............
because murray traded a number 1 pick and doesn't want to look foolish if nilson overtakes his spot!Remember folks, pride before wins in this stinken town of a sports league BOTH bills and sabres!!

re: Time for Changes
First of all bro, if you know enough about hockey 101, it's a safe bet that Stanley Cup winner Bylsma know's it too. So like the Bills, it's NOT the coach. If you read your post I swear people might think you're talking about the Bills. I just wish EVERYONE would realize that OUR SAVIORS, the Pegulas don't know FRACK ALL about football or hockey and are incapable of hiring qualified GMs and scouts! THIS WILL ONLY CHANGE WHEN THE BUYING PUBLIC VOTES WITH THEIR FEET, not their wallets! WAKE UP PEOPLE!
12/21/2016 1:26PM
Might Help
If the guys playing out could actually score on the shootout. We got nobody that can score. Maybe we can bring Ales Kotalik back.
12/21/2016 4:31PM
Re: Time for changes
I have 3 words for your diatribe: WRONG WRONG WRONG! There was only ONE wrong move by GMTM, the trade for Lehner.
12/21/2016 7:35PM
the pick
losing the first pick to Edmonton will haunt us forever. clearly Mcdavid is the more superior player..
12/21/2016 11:14PM
Lehner Nightmare
The Lehner experiment is turning into another player nightmare for the Sabres. should not of given a #1 pick for him. Ottawa definitely saw the down side to him unlike GM Murray did. Time to have him sit the pine and play Nillson. Should of went out and got Enroth back! Maybe we can draft a future net minder that can come thru in the clinch! Might need to trade for some D-men also or bring the kids up from Rochester. They can not be any worse.
12/22/2016 3:24PM
re: the pick
right on. bet the house. it was the fork in the road for the 2 franchises.
12/23/2016 12:39PM
Time for Changes
I will continue my diatribe- TIME FOR CHANGES. If your not understanding it as of now you will never get it, just reference the Carolina game. Bad GM and terrible coaching equals bottom of the league.
