Kane, Eichel Lead Sabres to 4-3 Win

Evander Kane scored twice and Jack Eichel added his 6th of the season in Buffalo's 4-3 win over Detroit on Tuesday. Robin Lehner added 40 saves in the win, helping the Sabres snap a four-game losing skid.

  • The Sabres jumped out to the 1-0 lead on Evander Kane's 7th. The forward swung the puck around the net and connected on his rebound.
  • Sam Reinhart's power play goal at 15:54 of the 1st made it 2-0. Reinhart got his stick on Rasmus Ristolainen's shot from the point, deflecting it past Petr Mrazek.
  • Henrik Zetterberg cut the lead in half in the 2nd period, scoring from an impossible angle (banking the shot off Robin Lehner's mask), but Jack Eichel's 6th came just 22 seconds later. Eichel roasted Thomas Vanek while driving hard to the net and roofed a shot over Mrazek.
  • Drew Miller's 4th came 1:06 after Eichel found the net, pulling Detroit back to within a goal, 3-2.
  • Former Sabre Thomas Vanek took advantage of a Justin Falk turnover on a 3rd period power play, beating Robin Lehner to make the 3-3.
  • Buffalo responded quickly once again, this time about two minutes later, on Kane's 2nd of the evening.
Game Notes
  • Dan Bylsma reaches 300 career NHL wins, becoming the 47th coach to reach the milestone.
  • Kane's first goal snapped a streak in which the Sabres had allowed their opponents to score the game's first goal.
  • Sam Reinhart has racked up 5 points (2 G, 3 A) in his last 4 games.
  • Kane opened the scoring and closed the scoring, and now has 4 goals in his last 5 games.
  • Dmitry Kulikov recorded his first point of the season, assisting on Kane's 2nd goal.

Despite The Win
Coach Minion has to go! C'mon Pegulas, finish the housecleaning and show Disco Dan the door as well! This team is brutal to watch. More turnovers than a bake shop!

Oh Really !!
Amazing how much better the Sabres look on offense when ROR is out. His 20 minute TOI and point every 3rd game make it difficult for the team to get any momentum game in and game out.

this team
Is a joke as is Homer Paul Hamilton. I'm sick of the whole bunch May, Duffer, Ray, Jennarette

Why roast
Marty Barron? The guy talks in one run-on sentence. He's annoying to listen to. Who would go to this thing?

I hope that means more wins are coming
Because most of fans are so tired of the losing from our teams. But this was a solid win for sabers still they got a lot of work to do.

Detroit is worse than Sabres
So it's a good thing they won.

Let's pick on the announcers and team reporters
Hey the Sabres won so lets find something else to b***h about. Uh I don't like Paul Hamilton because he spends every waking moment with the team. Like the players would ever open up to him or give him an interview if he was always bashing them night in and night out. Sure Mr. Jeanneret has lost a little over the years. He's been watching and calling Sabres hockey for 45 years. How many ways can this guy make make a non championship team seem interesting for so long. Thank you Rayzor for taking punches to the face for over a decade. Must have been a fun way to earn a living. Is Marty's first language english? Probably not, but let's rip on him because he's different. The point being. This group likes the Sabres as much as you do. To follow the Sabres is to love them. To work for them is probably harder. They have the task of turning chicken s**t into chicken soup. If you don't like it then stop going to their website and wasting your time reading and posting. Turn down your sets or even off. Just leave these men alone, they've already been beaten down enough.

Yeah the team got a regulation win. Now it is time to drop the next ten and then get a point in a shoot-out then one more regulation win. This is a great pattern. So much talent and great coaching that they are at the top of the mountain. Team is pitiful!

Re: this team
True, Hamilton is a joke. I don't mind the others you mention. However, Peters, AKA "PeeWee", HAS TO GO!!!!!!!!!

Kulikov, "Badgosion", Gorges, Deslaurier... 4 players who belong in the AHL and 4 reasons why the person(s) responsible for making these acquisitions and roster decisions should be fired, immediately. These four don't score and aren't good at preventing goals so what are they good for, occupying cap space? I could rattle off 4 more players who are almost as awful. I never saw so many on a team accidentally lose (drop) their (unbroken) sticks so often during a season. Weak grips? Badgosion dropped his at least twice, the first time it was "pulled" out of his hands by the goalie net! The second time he chops down the goalie. He is one of the most pathetic, overrated/underperforming players (poor skating, judgement & passing) outside of Mike Weber and Ville Leino to make a Sabres roster. Gorges Kulikov and Deslaurier (wasting a 4th line spot) are not far behind. When the "Swords" miss the playoffs (again) this year, look no further than those 4 and this comment.

Half of you people cant even spell the players names correctly that you're "roasting" If you think this teams so awful then dont watch. Its as simple as that. Go back to last year. We had a worse record than this at this point in time. Last year at the end of December we were 15-19-4 for a total of 34 pts in 38 games. Our record right now is 13-13-8 for a total of 34 pts in 34 games. We currently are at a better pace than last year. If you thought we were gonna make the playoffs this year then you're naive. We still need some work. The coach isnt the problem. If not Bylsma, who? And seriously? someones chirping O'Reilly? Get a grip man. Hes by far our best faceoff man and best player period. Did you see how bad we were on draws against the wings? Without ROR were significantly worse in all areas of the ice. You all need to get a grip. If you dont like what you see then dont watch, pretty simple.

this team is NOT A JOKE!
Class ownership, Kim and Terry Pegula, GM Tim Murray, Razor, Jenarette... Bylsma finally is getting the reigns of Kane who has not been playing as a team player until recently... Man is it nice to see Bylsma finally getting Evander to play hard and fast, but also buying into the team scheme... I had my doubts about him earlier, but he definitely is giving it up for the team

RE: this team is NOT A JOKE!
What team are you watching? Coach shows no emotion, team has exponential amount of talent but can not be put together. Players can not form a bond with line-mates due to continual line changes. Need we say more. Remember the team in Pittsburgh that hewon the cup with he inherited. When the key pieces left and his personnel were brought in Bylsma was fired. Even the NHL network comments on all the talent and how it is being utilized incorrectly.
12/30/2016 5:30AM
yep, kane???? bought into nothing, he has always played hard and fast, just not smart. his troubles are and still off the ice. o'reilly is fine and not the problem, brought here to be the #2 center behind eichel when he matures in the face off circle and d zone. coaching is a problem!! they have been playing the "system" for 2 yrs now and still get lost in d zone coverage, its either the most complex "system ever designed for hockey or he cant get his point across to the team. either way its a problem. turn overs are just as high now as when weber was here.. which is not good. not only is the d zone bad, for some reason when players come to buffalo, (goal scorers), they forget how to score, ot again the "system" holdws them back from being the players they can be. again thats a coaching problem. this team is pathetic. its my choice to watch pathetic hockey and my right to complain about it. if the on ice performance was better people wouldnt be irritated at the announcers and media personell as much. there is probably only 4 players on this roster i would worry about protecting, that is not saying much for this group.
