(WGR 550) -- ESPN's Tim Graham joined The Howard Simon Show on Wednesday morning to discuss his report that Marty Schottenheimer wanted the Bills head coaching job but was shot down by Ralph Wilson, and a whole new barrel of monkeys poured out on the airwaves.
"Mike Martz wanted the job, I know that for a fact. Jim Fassel wanted the job, I know that for a fact, and I think Marc Trestman, I’m fairly certain wanted the job," Graham said, also reinforcing his report on Schottenheimer, and throwing Brian Billick in the mix.
So Ralph Wilson had several names to choose from, and went with Chan Gailey. Graham explained his Schottenheimer rejection thoughts further:
“My sourcing on this is about as solid as it gets," Graham said. "I belong to some of the Bills message boards and I’m taking a lot of heat for this report… it reminds me of the time I reported that Joe Mesi had the brain bleed, and let’s just say I’ve never been more confident in my sourcing.”
“I’m sure the next time Marty is on his radio show, he’s going to say he wasn’t interested in the job, and that doesn’t mean the report isn’t correct. He did want the job… You don’t want to get labeled as unwanted.”
“I don’t know that Marty was actively calling the Bills and lobbying for the job, but it’s been made perfectly clear that he was wanting the job and hoping for an interview."
