I usually see Ehrhoff make a blind pass into no man's land (usually resulting in a giveaway) once a shift. He came off back-to-back 14 goal seasons with Vancouver (28 in 159 games) which meant we should sign him to a ridiculous contract for a pace he wouldn't be able to maintain (as I said years ago, but nobody was listening quite hard enough) and has 14 total here (in 164 games).
Unfortunately Ehrhoff is now the best D-man we have... but much like Pominville and Vanek were our best scorers, we shipped them out much like we will ship Miller (our best Goalie) soon enough. The only issue I find in trading Ehrhoff is much like Leino, I'd be curious who'd be willing to spend so much on an overall average d-man with below average defensive ability.
But of course, I'm just a whack-job who called Brad Boyes not returning to his former glory in Buffalo and Leino's demise back in July of 2011 when first signed, all to many think I was an idiot and should be long forgotten. Now I laugh.
Who will replace the vet?
I can see if they are going to get a better vet for him. But if they can't keep him. Isn't that one of this team problems right now. I mean don't you have to build around something. they want miller gone which is really going to make this team suck. Then where do you go from their; back to an all rookie team as you see that didn't work. Boy its just a lot of work to do. So lets get it started.
this sounds more like a "wet dream" give it up- or have "What If Day"? what if GR finds better writers with fresh ideas not wet dreams
Better idea: trade Pys-off, McBain, Zadorov, Rhistolainin, Rude Weasel, ANYONE not named Myers or Eh
Are ya kidding? I'm not saying he's great, but Ehrhoff is no worse than Spacek was years ago. He and Myers are NOT why your team $ucks. Having NOTHING in four other positions to play "stay-at-home" defensive roles is merely PART of the problem. The other problems you have are that you have Zippo, Nada, Nihil, NOTHING at forward except a bunch of liabilities. You need desperately to find someone, ANYONE who can legitimately play even as a second line center. Girgensons is third liner right now and probably better suited as a winger as his "play-making" ability is suspect while his ability to dig in the corner is much better (THAT'S A WINGER'S JOB). From there, pray...just PRAY that you get a guy like McDavid and then start praying that he doesn't flop like so many players that have had the misfortune of wearing that lousy logo'd jersey we have to suffer with here in Buffalo. As of TODAY, the Buffalo Sabres are two forward lines (1 and 2) and four good, solid defensemen from competing in the NHL. And it won't change tomorrow either.
idea of the day
The bulldog had the day off. And we can hear about our teams in better light. They had kelly on this morning and he nail it right off the back. We are saying that EJ is superman after one year but he is going to get his chance to prove whyhe was our number i pick last year. And thats is what the sabres are doing seeing who is going to standout for these jobs.
No sense at all
Affordable, serviceable, and young enough to mentor. With new kids of the same age and contract term coming in Erhoff is a must keep.
I think he's our best defenseman. I would rather trade Myers, I told everyone after his rookie season.
Plenty of others should go
Keep Erhoff but Darcy's collection of finesse fairies like Hodgson, Ennis, Grigo, Armia, Leino, Stafford, and Mcbain should go instead. Now is the time to build a lunch bucket team for the future. Don't keep youth for the sake of youth.
If the Sabres got Callahan for Ehrhoff
Or someone like Callahan, then yea, for sure
How dare you call that masterpiece not great and not terrible!
with these ridiculous "ideas". They are more like brain f arts. Ehrhoff is what he is...a decent puck moving dman on a reasonable cap hit...of course he has giveaways...last game was not pretty...but you trade him and your defense instantlygets worse. How about this for brain f art of the day...trade the trainwreck Mike Weber...great guy but poor dman...you could probably trade him to Dallas for a bag of pucks...Lindy always had a man crush on Weber.
Matt D’Agostini back in the lineup. This guy has played 1 good game for this team. He is not good...marginal 4th liner. Watching this team is worse than watching paint dry.
Fantastic old timer player...does not belong in NHL;can't make an accurate pass, and when the play gets rough, I have the feeling he would rather be in the bleachers.
Trade all the older players
Stockpile, teach, get tough, get great in a few years.
Undo all the Regier big contracts
... after he brought in Drury and Briere he lost his mojo; over paid Vanek, Stafford, Robin Regier, Leino and Erhoff. Time to get serious and let the new "outsider" clean house and change the culture. Punch used to say: "we just as well lose with another seventeen skaters as well as these guys." But conventional wisdom says its easier to fire a coach than seventeen players. Right now the Sabres resemble an expansion club without a number 1 draftee.
why the heck arent they playin omark? scott dagostini are not any better and flynn is average at best. we need offensive talent enough with the grinders already. you will not win no cup wth 18 grinders you need some skill. just think omark should get better chance when nolan took him out of lineup weeks ago he said he did nothing wrong it was a number thing and has played twice since then made good play on pp and then sat
Why not the prodigy....
Why not trade WGR's prodigy player Pysyk. He is playing at a top level in Rochester so when he comes back to the Sabres he should be a number one defenseman. Any team should want him and give a top performing player with the same skill set as his. I think we need to keep Ehrhoff for he is far more consistant then many of the other defensemen on the Sabres. The errant passes may be due to the inexperienced players out of place on the ice. Think about it!
I Don't Understand
Trade him for who or what? Or does it not matter? You mean like, trade him for a bag of pucks, or used jock straps? Or new jock straps and two bags of pucks? Or do you mean for other players? Like who? Or draft picks, more draft picks, and what round?
These "Trade (fill in the blank)" ideas aren't very good
You can't say if it's good or bad to trade someone when there's no option of what the return would be. Trade him for George Parros? No. Trade him for something someone good? Yea, maybe. There's way too many directions for it to be a simple "Trade Ehrhoff?".
He was brought here to be a part of Darcy's championship team and we all know how that turned out.I don't mind him as a player but if his role is now as a future mentor for the youth of this team I would trade him for assets cause he doesn't give me the impression he is a heart and soul kinda guy.Like it or not Sabres fans Myers is that guy and Ted Nolan will bring that outta him.Myers is just starting to develop his mean streak. And for all those fair weather fans who thinks Ehrhoff has no trade value just shows how little you really know about hockey
re: to trade ehrhoff.
do you understand english. All we are saying who are we are going to get for him. because he is worth more than a bag of pucks and jock straps. he's not the best dman for the sabres by luck. And how long do we wait for myers to start to play like his rookie year. You see the players darcy got rid of were the ones making myers look good. Their gone and he hasn't produce yet. He's surpose to be the star; but its ehrhoff who is doing his job. Can you explain that or like the comment above me that indcates you don't know about hockey. Not to say your dumb or anything but it is what it is. Me myself when i was a kid i didn't know anything about hockey. But i knew i like this game And i am black. so what i did is went to my white freinds and say hey i want to play this game too. I shut my mouth and started learning from them and even their days and uncles would come out and teach me. why because they knew i had a desire to play this game. thats why i always say if you haven't played or been coach in any sports. you can't tell the next person who dose. just listen and learn. Hell even the girls at that time was scoring on me for lol. but they were good though i will tell you that. And if you think that women don't get down. Well here your chance to see them in action. Its called the olypmic. With they fine selfs.
The GM is wasting time
Well both Stafford and Moulson are hurt, cross them off trade list. How much more time will he waste? Miller or Ennis could get hurt...and what? They drop like flies, you are stuck. WAKE UP MURRAY!!!
Let's just call this idea a Joke. You just don't come up with dumb ideas trading your best defenseman. Ehrhoff would be awesome with good players like he was in Vancouver. You keep him and Myers. Build from there. Dump the rest on this current roster.
what is murray waiting for?
it puzzles me how our new gm says he isn't going to sit back and wait to make moves. well, he hasn't done anything different than darcy did. seems to me its the same thing different day. just keep rotating players from rochester to buffalo and back to rochester. what a joke.
roster - forwards
ahl players: dagostini, ellis, flynn, konopka, mccormick, omark, scott, varone.
useless players: leino, stafford
penalty due to laziness players: hodgson.
how can you win with these guys? totally out classed by rest of the NHL.
Who to trade him for?
Like it or not, Ehrhoff is your leading point getter on defense. As someone else said, he's no worse than Spacek was years ago and Ehrhoff is not the reason this team stinks.
Hockey Hotline. Just changed the dial to WYRK the country station. Silvester and Peters are just awful.
i like Peters, but Sylvester is a clown. You can tell he works for the Sabres cause everytime someone says something negative about the administration he gets defensive. One more thing. PPPPPlease do not let Sylvester call play by play ever again.
Ehrhoff is untradeable.
If you move him and he retires with one year left on his deal, the Sabres are assessed a $10M cap penalty.
You need to keep him around so you can monitor this time bomb and buy him out if necessary.
Are Buffalo fans the dumbest in all of sports?
By all of these comments, I think it is evident that Sabres fans are by far the dumbest in all of hockey. Ehrhoff gives you the most return because he is a solid defenseman who only has a 4 million dollar cap hit. That contract was genius by Darcy. A toptier team would give up a ton for the guy.
Ehrhoff didn't deliver
That disastrous off-season when Uncle Terry assumed the reigns from Sugar Packets is still hurting the team. All the high priced free agents we got just took our money and cheated us. For the money we should've gotten players who would run through brick walls but all we got were these Euro Elitists who hang their heads and disappear when the going gets tough.
Organizationally Buffalo can't evaluate character if it hit them upside the head. A guy like Girgensons is the exception rather than the rule.
I don't feel that this is a team, it's just a loose collection of players. The way they pass it to each other it seems nobody cares for each other. We have a collection of freaks and most of them have no talent. The talented ones are flawed.
I'm not sure where to start with this rebuild. Maybe Murray can use his own player evaluations in order to get us up to speed with Ottawa.
What Happened to Howard Simon?
Just watched one of my VHS tapes of the old Empire Sports Network of Howard Simon and what a difference compared to now being on WGR. Boy, he was good back then. I'm baffled and having trouble figuring out why he got away from the honesty and reality on our sports teams.
His contract isn't horrible, and he's pretty solid. I think the Sabres could definitely do better for a top 2 pairing, but as a top 4 I don't mind him.
least of our problems
Ehrhoff is the least of our troubles. We do have a gaggle of D prospects. We need to unload the waiver wire scubs and 5th liners that make up our forwards and develop the youth we have. The reality is that no matter how many ellis's we have they'll never add up to one Crosby, or one Vanek for that matter. Find me someone who knows how to make a pass to a stick.
Trade Ehrhoff to Col
Trade him for Stastny assuming you can resign him. Good fit as a #1 center for Nolan, plays two way hockey and can score.
I don't think Ehrhoff is the problem
If you have to play a guy with the flu you have a problem with depth not D. Ehrhoff is one guy who hasn't had a consistent partner to work with. Trading him won't give you that chemistry that's needed between D pairings. Hopefully Murray, Pat & Ted have been evaluating so we can have consistent lines that build chemistry. Ask the French Connection, they know a little bit about it.
A Causal Sabres Fan Asks....
I listen to Schopp and The Bulldog pretty regularly, unless I'm so fed up with our teams that my mental health requires me to take a break. I have a question that my 12-year old son and I have been discussing and, unfortunately, I have been unable to answer this question. My concern is that my son is starting to think that maybe Dad doesn't know "everything" and I'm hoping you can help me out. Here goes: Both my son and I see who the Bills are "building around" (rightly or wrongly) but are confused as to who on the Sabres' roster occupies a similar position. Everytime I listen in lately, Schopp and The Bulldog are discussing who should be traded next: Miller, Moulson, Ennis, Ehrhoff, etc. Geez. Mindful that the Sabres are in the cellar, are there ANY players on this team that you feel the Sabres are committed to for at least the medium haul? I have no idea. Signed, Dad in Crisis (John Kolaga).
