The defense wore down, but it never quit. Even late, when Pierre Thomas was gashing the Bills for some nice-sized gains, Buffalo would come back with consecutive stops. They played hard and aggressive within reason, most of the time (More on that later, Kawika).
To be fair, the offense didn't quit either, it just looked that way. It was a performance so awful that I texted a co-worker to see how windy it was at the stadium. He said it wasn't, just breezy.
So there's no excuse for that.
Let's talk 1-2....
-- Judging by early Twitter and Facebook messages, is this game really going to become a "blame Dick Jauron" thing? Seriously? You are absolutely allowed to dislike how the team has been under him, and think he's done a poor job overall, but please don't make the mistake of saying a different head coach would've engineered that offense to victory today. Just don't.
-- I know we've never had this discussion in Buffalo before, so let me be the first to ask if you think it's Trent or the offensive line? My, oh my, were they both awful.
For those who want to pick the former: "Trentative" Edwards came back this week, and Thurman Thomas "tweeted" during the game that Trent had options open downfield. Did you know that Edwards is 56-of-81 for 598 yards, 4 TD and 2 INT, but only 43 percent of his completions have gone to wide receivers?
For those who want to pick the latter: The line truly looked like a bunch of hacks this week, including a center who thought the shotgun was the handgun. They took a number of horrible penalties when they weren't forcing Edwards to be better in the pocket than Minnesota Fats.
Choose wisely. Again, I know it's a new argument around here...
-- The offense was summed up more than adequately by Trent Edwards tossing the ball to Fred Jackson at the line of scrimmage on 4th and 23 with just over two minutes to go. Trent, I know Fred's saved your bacon an awful lot this year, but put that ball up in the air!
EDIT NOTE: BEST TWEET EVER, courtesy of @bps21: Let's put the blame in Hangartner's hands so that he can lay it at Trent's feet.
-- Forget T.O.: Lee Evans is a hard-nosed, blazing fast receiver with terrific hands who gets open. Get him the ball. Now.
-- Jackson posted a more than respectable yards-per-carry, so why quit on the run game as early as they did? He ended up under 4.0 yards-per-rush, but that was due to a world-class awful counter play on the last drive. He continued to eek out extra yards, and I can't wait to see what he and Marshawn Lynch combine to do at Miami next week.
-- Geoff Hangartner forgot how to snap a football or something. He made Melvin Fowler look like Jeff Saturday. Maybe he was trying to save his quarterback some misery. Ai-yie-yie.
-- At first, I was an enraged as anyone with Jauron not challenging the Josh Reed play where it appeared his knee never touched the ground, but the absolute lack of outrage from anyone other than Reed and Lee Evans leads me to believe that his shoulder must have made contact with the turf when he was flipped over.
-- The Bills defense did not truly give up 27 points, regardless of what the scoreboard tells you. The offense also didn't score seven.
-- Still think Aaron Schobel is washed up?
-- Marcus Stroud was an absolute monster. For a guy to weigh as much as he does and not be a fat guy is remarkable. He should be a body guard in action movies.
-- I hadn't realized Sean Payton was "annoying sideline guy." So much for rooting for the Saints in the NFC, if it even was more than an inkling.
-- Dear Kawika Mitchell,
I know the game is fast, but try not to forearm shiver anyone in the helmet. It's illegal.
Sincerely,
An interested observer
-- Fourth-and-1 at his own 28-yard line with 7:22 to go -- and trailing 17-7 -- DIck Jauron punts. Apparently, the media is going to make this the greatest debacle in the history of football ever. A colleague actually used the phrase, "worst punt call ever." I'm not going to waste time finding worse ones -- maybe tomorrow morning -- but let's not get carried away.
-- Alright, I'm officially done with message boards, television and radio for the night. Terrell Owens wasn't trying hard enough? I had a couple angry reactions, like the deep ball thrown over the wrong shoulder and the one-handed stab at an errant out pattern throw, but replays proved my eyes wrong. As for body language, Lee Evans didn't look too pleased, either.
-- It's okay to like Edwards and still say he was awful today. It's all that's wrong with sports fanaticism to simply project this loss onto Jauron, Owens or Roscoe Parrish, whose fumble was terrrrrible.
-- Derek Fine isn't a fast runner.
-- Ryan Denney has as many touchdown receptions as anyone who's worn a Bills uniform in the last two years not named Lee Evans.
-- I usually use the rock and roll or indie rock music to calm down, but The Roots are doing a terrific job tonight.
Stat line I enjoyed:
-- Drew Brees, 16-of-29, 172 yards, 2 sacks, 0 TD
When you do that, you should beat the Saints. Whoops. Stat line I didn't enjoy:
-- Trent Edwards, sacked four times
The offensive line was absolutely brutal in pass protection, and took a whole lot of bad penalties.
Game ball:
-- The defensive line
Forget the Saints pass rush, if the Bills 'D' went against its own O-line today, it would've knocked Edwards out in the first quarter. Heck, the defensive line even scored Buffalo's points.
Lastly...
Nothing. I'm done. I have to screen the Whiner Line in the morning, so please allow me to just watch the Colts/Cards and call it a night.
Next week: The 0-3 Dolphins host the 1-2 Bills in Miami. AFC East football; it's faaaaaantastic (Thanks, Spike Lee). I think Perry Fewell's defense will handle the wildcat, and the Bills have the talent to take care of the Dolphins' defense. This team has done a good job of rebounding from misery in the past, and I think they'll show up next Sunday. Will they win? Yeah, but it'll be just as ugly as JP's win in Miami a few years back. Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson could both threaten 100 yards, and I think the passing game throws for around 125 yards. Bills 16, Dolphins 13.
Let's type about it: nick@wgr550.com

polls
Edwards was in the top 5 (QB ranking)over the first 2 weeks of the season, nary a peep from GR, articles, poles etc. They lose convincingly to a much better team and suddenly the "Edwards Question" becomes the pole question, when it's obvious he didn't lose the game. And it's obvious the Saints are a better team in every facet of the game than the Bills are. The Saints are on a killing spree and the Bills got in the way... it happens, but what's the "Crap on the Quarterback fetish" all about guys?
Loved your TO poll by the way "Has TO lived up to your expectations? a)Yes B) Yes C)Yes
I get that you had a (semi-negative) Yes in there, but let's be honest Edwards wouldn't have gotten off that easy if he was almost a non-factor over the first two games, like TO was.
The stat here isn't Edwards stat line, which was average, it was the zero next to TO's name, the one next to his name in week one and the two in week two..... there's your story crack reporters.... oh but then he may ask you to take his tweets off your home page.....
Congrats on the award by the way.

Capt. Check Down
4th and 23 late in the 4th...and he's still checking down
09/27/2009 8:38PM
Well
Trent can check his ass right out of town!
09/27/2009 8:41PM
funny
Brees's numbers and Edwards numbers look about the same.... wonder if you know throwing down field was a problem due to wind or something.
09/27/2009 8:42PM
Forget it Nick
Blah Blah Blah, that's all you do is blame Edwards. We all know you loved JP so any chance you get to blast Trent you take. Give him a freakin' center who can actually snap a ball 2 yards and an offensive line that can actually block somebody and then judge him. I am so sick of you taking cheap shots at him especially when you never played the game. Typical talk show host reaction, blame the QB.
09/27/2009 8:44PM
re:well
I'm sure he will and get a job elsewhere, probably in New England so he can come back a light the Bills up twice a year. Belicek would love to have this guy in camp.
09/27/2009 8:45PM
how bout that defense huh?
letting up 17 in the fourth.... great job there.
09/27/2009 8:47PM
RE: defense
Why talk about the defense (It's so complicated and it doesn't help my rage), isn't it much more fun to crap on one guy, I know we can crap on the Quarterback!
and the cycle continues...
09/27/2009 8:48PM
Bills need to play college teams
Seriously, look at the product on the field, they only play well against the worst teams, which means they are one of the worst! Who cares if they beat Tampa and Miami, they are just as bad.
09/27/2009 8:50PM
Trent
Garbage
09/27/2009 8:50PM
Cheap shots (from Nick)
How come you didn't come out and notice when I complimented him last week? Geez, there's such a "boyfriend" mentality among certain fans where you're not allowed to write from what you feel is a columnist's standpoint.
I asked in the column whether you thought it was the QB or line, who I also said were both awful. Did you think he was good today? Because your argument sounds a lot like the JP supporters arguments for years.
And when I "supported" JP, it was under the assumption that at the time he'd work better than a rookie, not that I though Trent Edwards stunk. He was the right one to go with last year, and he deserves the season. There is nothing wrong with noting that it was not a good day for him. I didn't say trade or cut him. Now exhale.

Punting
Who the hell punts with a minute left in the game down by anything????
09/27/2009 8:51PM
Bills D
unfortunately the game reactions are a bit unbalanced.
Almost nothing is mentioned about the defense, who basically got ran over in the 4th.
But I guess that's because the Saints are a better team overall right now.
09/27/2009 8:51PM
Trent
Garbage
09/27/2009 8:54PM
No Huddle is No Go
No, a different head coach would not have engineered a victory with that offense. But a different head coach would have a big enough clue to know that the offense if not good enough to go no huddle without exhausting the defense because they have to play45 minutes a game. For the third game in a row, the defense was gassed in the second half, thanks to our three and out offense. Going no huddle makes it even worse, something oblivious to our glorious leader Dick Jauron.
09/27/2009 8:55PM
Dickie
well its JAurons job as head coach to put these pklayers on the field, so yes, it's his fault.
09/27/2009 8:57PM
Trent jockstrap (supporter)
I was a supporter his first couple years. However, the guy will not throw the ball past 7 yards. He is scared to. Makes no sense. We have forgiven him because they moved the ball okay that way, but guess what??? You can only do a slant pattern and screenpass so many times before teams figure out that is all you can do (aaaahum...week3). If he wont throw the ball down field, put MOORMAN in. He has the longest pass of the week for us.
09/27/2009 8:57PM
no-huddle
they needed to score 11 points to be leading for 75 percent of that game. Even after the fourth quarter, the defense allowed 18 points less than any other team to play the Eagles this year.
09/27/2009 8:58PM
Just get them the damn ball!
There were many opportunities to get Terrel and Lee the ball, I just dont think Trent can hit them guys on a regular basis unless your at most 10 yards in front of him and in the middle of the field! The cornerbacks for a good portion of the game played 10 yards off Terrel and Lee and dont recall Trent checking out of the play and throwing a quick 5 yard out or a quick slant or quick screen or something, sheeesh! Those guys are playmakers and playmakers make plays when the ball is in their hands! Those little short, quick passes also open up the deep pass because the corners will start to bite on the quick passes then that allows u better chances over the top, not just lining up and having T.O. go deep because he hasnt touched the ball or we havn't thrown deep in a while! This guy Trent loses his confidence as the game goes on and when this guy loses his confidence, man does it take off in the other direction! All those check downs are a product of NO CONFIDENCE! This guy cannot put it in the end zone when we really need to!
09/27/2009 9:01PM
nick
let's sum it up, they didn't give up? they basically waited for NO to pull ahead when it was 10-7, and as soon as they did, they gave up because they have no faith in their QB or coach. Schoebel? stop it, trade him now for a number one like Seymour, this is a rebuilding team that is going nowhere. While your at it trade Lee Evans and Marshawn, neither has a role on this team
09/27/2009 9:03PM
Why am I here?
I'm sure that is the question Terrell Owens is asking himself. He was thrown to 5 times during the game? Are you freaking kidding me??? Get the ball into the vicinity of your playmakers and trust them to make plays, period. You are not going to do anything if Derek Fine has more passes thrown ot him than Owens and Evans COMBINED!!! Hey "Checkwards", GROW A PAIR!!! Learn how to extend a play a la Big Ben or Tom Brady. This is the NFL. You are not going to get ample protection on every play. It is the great ones who can make plays under duress. Hey forget about being great. I'll just settle for slightly above average for now.
09/27/2009 9:12PM
classless
What a classless coach. 8 times in the last two mim, utes and you cant throw TO a pass to continue his streak
09/27/2009 9:14PM
Dickey J
A wonderful 4th down call to punt the ball, yes lets let the saints burn out the clock. We all know Trent wont throw the ball down the field and if he does TO wont catch it any way......#1 Bye DICK,, #2 Bye Trent.....#3 Retire TO.
09/27/2009 9:15PM
punt or go for it
4th and 1 - Punt4th and 23 - Go For It!
09/27/2009 9:16PM
No Kidding
Lou Saban, Chuck Nox(sp.) Bill Polian, Wade Phillips - Good or bad - Ralph has run them all out of tow. The Bills, Heck the city has had two professional major sport champions - '64 & 65 Bills
09/27/2009 9:21PM
Money well Spent
The Bills brought in T.O. to improve the WR core, opposite Evans. What ever happened to getting the ball to WR'S and let them fight for a jump ball. Shows a lot of respect for WR's, YEH!!
09/27/2009 9:24PM
re: Trent jockstrap (supporter)
Have you EVER played QB at a higher level than flag football? In order to throw the ball downfield you have to have at minimum 4 seconds (preferably 5-6) so your receiver can actually run 25-35 yards. When the QB gets less than 5 seconds you can't throw downfield. Anybody that has played football knows this unfortunately all you get on here are Gym Class Hero QB's who think they know what they're talking about (includes you Nick). When you only get 2-3 seconds, checkdown passes are all you have available.
09/27/2009 9:25PM
NO MORE SOCAL QB'S
Rob Johnson. JP Losman. Now, Trent Edwards. Enough said. Next may when the Bills are on the clock, draft a QB out of the Northeast, Texas or Florida. STAY AWAY FROM WEST COAST QB'S!!!
09/27/2009 9:26PM
Hey Nick, a football Truth
A football team reflects the personality of the coach when it comes to intensity, drive, and aversion to losing. A 16 game season means you cannot take losses in stride and "hope" to get better. Nick, you should know this if you have been watching the NFL long enough.
09/27/2009 9:27PM
gym class hero comment
if only people who played quarterback can criticize a quarterback, then less than 400 area people can talk about football ever.
09/27/2009 9:29PM
to the haters of nick
Nick is proly the most honest. witty, and right on point columnist/reporter/sports radio guy around...he knows his stuff and hes almost always on point with everything he says week in and week out...with that said, besides timeout management the coaching staff did what they could taking chances when needed..it's about time that these players start making the big plays....btw i'd punt down 17-7 with 7 plus mins left every week..if you were watching we had NO 3rd and 9 with 6 1/2 mins left..and i think we can all agree that if we had the option to trust our offense or our defense with the game on the line we'd pick the defense
09/27/2009 9:35PM
(to the haters of Nick)
Thanks, Mrs. Mendola. I am sorry for disagreeing with your son. I will try to be a better fan in the future...signed, fan who is sick of losing and excuses.
09/27/2009 9:36PM
Minnesota Fats
Paul Newman was a cheater
09/27/2009 9:37PM
Mrs. Mendola (from Nick)
My Mom would've told me my columns were too long, and to be more brief and clean my room (even though I don't live at home anymore).
To the guy who complimented me, thanks. I'm trying.
09/27/2009 9:40PM
I blame it on Trent
After 7-8 seconds with the ball, how can Trent Edwards not find T.O. and Lee Evans downfield. I blame it on Trent, not the O-Line
09/27/2009 9:44PM
Football truth is correct!
Right on assessment. Also Thurman Thomas criticized Deadwards for checking down too much. So the dope making reference to gym class heroes just showed us his SAT score range: <300
09/27/2009 9:49PM
The Bills lost a game
That everyone knew they would lose...what's the big deal?
09/27/2009 9:49PM
Perhaps??
Trent suffered a broken leg in pratice. He maybe could be in the UFL
09/27/2009 9:53PM
WTF
Every time I try to post aboubr a tBills QB having a season ending lower body injury caused by a veteran safety it doesn't show up???
09/27/2009 9:53PM
Footballs Don't roll well
When Trent has to bend down to pick up the ball every snap he waists 0.4 of the 1.2 seconds he has to throw the ball, WTF!!!
09/27/2009 9:57PM
To Nick
Instead of suffering the pain of having to write about this miserable team, come over, i'll break out my Laphroaig 15 year & you won't care how bad this team is..fire regeir!
09/27/2009 9:57PM
re: No More Socal QB's
You of course meant to say "No more California QB's" due to the fact that he is from and went to a school in the northern portion of California.
Just want everyone to back away from the cyanide and realize that God couldn't be efficient at QB with the organization that's trying to lead currently.
Nick: Sabres prediction?
09/27/2009 9:58PM
next 5 games
I see the Bills going 4-1, with a split to either Carolina or Jets. So the Bills should be 5-3 at the split. Agree.....
09/27/2009 10:04PM
Where are they now?
Troy Vincent
09/27/2009 10:09PM
Nick
I read his reactions every week and I can trust pretty much everything he says, because stats don't lie. I don't see favoritism, I see a journalism putting the facts down and asking you to choose where you think problems lie. I can't believe that people would choose to attack the messenger after this game. Trent surprised me in the past weeks, but its apparent he's having trouble now. Whether its on him entirely or the players who are supposed to give him the time to throw, its something the Bills need to work on. MJS
09/27/2009 10:10PM
We Don't Hate Nick but
he has a tendency to blame Edwards for basically everything. TO doesn't try..must be Edwards fault. Jauron punts on 4th and 1...Edwards fault. Defense gives up in the 4th quarter...Edwards fault. Nick had overcooked eggs this morning...Edwards fault.
09/27/2009 10:12PM
Hey
Where is Troy Vincent when you need him?
09/27/2009 10:15PM
re: I blame it on Trent
Man, I gotta get some of what you're smokin' pal. Did T.O. score you that weed?? I actually feel sorry for Trent, there's no way I'd want those bums protecting me. How about the center who actually rolls the ball back to Trent...only in Buffalo.
09/27/2009 10:17PM
re: Football truth is correct!
And we all know that Thurman was a great QB.
09/27/2009 10:18PM
trent
why cant you beat good teams? oh wait because you suckkk. look at his record vs teams that have a better then 500 record, its very good at alllll.
09/27/2009 10:18PM
UNACCEPTABLE
IT IS UNACCEPTABLE for a buffalo sports writer to call LEE EVANS hard nosed....He is a one route wonder who REFUSES to go across the middle...and i dont care about edwards not checking down in a close game but when YOUR ONLY chance is a 4th and 23 you throw a 1yd check down. Why not just kneel the ball....people call T.O. selfish its pretty apparent edwards took the loss for the whole team rather than throw a pic to hurt his rating
09/27/2009 10:19PM
no confidence
It's clear Trent is too concerned with throwing interceptions and will only throw downfield if it's man coverage and he leads the receiver and he looks like he's open. There's no passes to the middle at all (this started after the Cleveland game interceptions last year). It's either dump off or on the sideline. I watched the Tennessee-NY Jets game and frigin Kerry Collins was lasering passes into great coverage and making plays. You HAVE to be willing to take chances downfield. Right now this guy just will not do that unless it's a perfect pass.
09/27/2009 10:37PM
Hangartner Sucks
Has any coach taught this guy how to snap a ball to the QB?
09/27/2009 10:44PM
Bye Bye Juron
Lets punt w/ time running out and down 2 scores. Lets throw underneath on 4th and 23.
09/27/2009 10:46PM
...
LETS GO SABRES
09/27/2009 10:47PM
First 2 steps towards winning:
1)Find a real QB. 3 games in and you can't figure out a way to get the ball to TO? Constantly looking like you need a sedative while in the pocket? Dumping the ball off on 4th and 23 late in the fourth trailing? Failing to produce a single score (the saints are known for their offense not their defense...)? Sure he'll compile a nice completion percentage with all the automatic 3 yard catches defenses will give him on 3rd and long, and he wont have lots of int's because he's afraid to throw past the line of scrimmage, but we'll never beat good teams consistently with him at the helm.2)Fire dick jauron. This team is the mirror image of their coach, unagressive and passive (nevermind clueless and bumbling when it matters most). If he were a qb he'd play exactly like edwards does, and that's no coincidence looking at how edwards does play. Then punting on 4th and one with 4 minutes left and down by 2 scores was the perfect example of his gutlessness, which deflated the team and any chances they had at coming back. Then the way the defense simply quit after that, along with all the penalties, simply demonstrates how monumentally inept jauron is as a coach. What is he now 2 and 23 vs. winning teams? How much more evidence does wilson need...
09/27/2009 10:56PM
agree
totally with thurman, i was at the game and saw countless times TO would break his defender and at that same time, edwards would dump it to the TE. i was an edwards fan up until this week and totally think he has a lack of confidence in throwing downfield. he has given up on even looking now and its time for someone to speak up ... (TO)
09/27/2009 11:18PM
We need
Troy Vincent.
09/27/2009 11:29PM
Never mind TO
We need TV to help solve our QB problem
09/27/2009 11:52PM
Huge Turning point!
The fumble after the catch by Roscoe was huge, just when it seemed the Bills gathered some momentum. Also the pathetic snaps didn't help the cause either. The blame lies on the shoulders of the coaching staff.
09/28/2009 12:20AM
more than two comments (not TO comments)
just sooo frustrated but I'm thinking... Trent hasn't been the same since he got his bell rung last year. Also, am I the only one wondering why - all of a sudden - Dickie bird sprouts a pair of shades. Is the sky that bright in your world, DJ? What is your game, make the team suck so bad that we hate them and it's easier to move them to Toronto? BTW, anybody catch Cool DJ pick his ear and then sniff his finger????? Get him out of here for crying out loud before we puke!
09/28/2009 12:49AM
Wow
It took all of 3 weeks with the dynamic duo of Trent/dick for TO to snap his 185 game streak... Coincidence? And he didn't like Mcnabb/Romo/Gaycia/Reid/Phillips/mariucci?
09/28/2009 12:52AM
Colt McCoy
Can we lose enough games to get McCoy or do we have to spend another season with noodle arm edwards who for some reason doesn't like to throw to Wr's
09/28/2009 12:54AM
re:re: Football truth is correct!
And so where did you play football? Oh is this Jim Kelly? Oh man!
09/28/2009 12:56AM
Can Wood snap the ball 7 yards?
Because if he can he would have a leg up on Hangartner. Only the Bills would draft the highest rated Center in 8 years and move him to guard. Put him back to his natural position so he can develop in to our version of Jeff Saturday.
09/28/2009 1:04AM
My favorite part
is when you pretty much predicted our running game to out gain our passing next week. I whole-heartedly agree with this, but it is kind of sad because on truly good teams that doesn't happen.
09/28/2009 1:21AM
Cut your hair trent
Cut your hair trent
09/28/2009 1:26AM
RE: Polls
not TO's fault Tredwards is afraid to throw to his outside receivers. And dont forget consitantly missing evans and TO on deep routes.
09/28/2009 1:47AM
Blame Ralph
Nothing is going to change as long as Ralph owns the team. All he cares about is making money and he does that week after week year after year
09/28/2009 5:52AM
Please Ralph
Fire Dick !!! It is his fault. You went out and got TO in the off-season (which was a great publicity stunt to sell tickets)but you have a QB in Trent that is afraid to throw to him or Lee. I am tired of looking at a Keith Richards statue on the sidelines. By the way, what the hell is he clapping at in the fourth quarter after punting the ball to NO and handing them the game? TO was opened many times as well as Evans. The only long ball was to TO who had separation from the corner and Trent over threw the ball. So can he throw long ..yes..but why didn't he try again and again? Answer; DICK aka Keith Richards. I can't believe its AVP that wants this over conservative offense, after all he broke all of Marino's passing records at Pitt. It's the coach..fire him now!!Please. This is one season ticket holder (3) that wants TO to start his sideline in your face rants and put some fire up both Dick and Trent's a$$e$. They both need an infusion of spittle in their face!!
09/28/2009 6:39AM
Same old, Same old
This inconsistent football is what we are all used to. I cant understand why the D is so weak! Ellison sucks... Poz has proved nothing, all mitchell has is a SB ring w/ Giants! Our linebackers suck! We had Fletcher, Spikes, Posey... best tandem we had this decade... we had Jason Peters... now we dont. This club cant keep quality talent, because Ralph is CHEAP! ->>>An annoyed Bills fan living in Israel.
09/28/2009 8:10AM
T.O shows great composure
Obviously the Bills should have beaten the Patriots. They did beat the Bucs. And mostly recently played the Saints, a very good opponent, well enough to be in the game late.
09/28/2009 8:14AM
Reporter an idiot
During T.O.s post game interview with the media, one of the reporters asked T.O. what he thought about the offense and its execution. T.O. asked him what he thought and the reporter responded back, you dont care what I think. I think that reporter is a horses you know what. Here T.O. is up at the podium doing the best he can under a very difficult situation and this report comes back at him with some stupid comment. That reporter is an idiot.

Nice job at the mike T.O.
I have never been a Terrell Owens fan. I certainly was intrigued when we signed him. I thought that he could probably keep his cool for one year considering he was kinda able to do that in Philadelphia and Dallas. He has been playing in the league for a while and must have grown up somewhat over the years. I thought the he would be that second wide out that we have been waiting for to compliment Lee Evans. I was optimistic this year as every year about the Buffalo Bills. Maybe not quite so much with the young offensive line and the miserable preseason, but I try to be open-mined. The team has played pretty good. Good enough to realistically be 2-1 right now. I wanted to mention T.O. even thought I am not a fan. I thought he showed great composure with the media after not catching a ball and ending his streak of 185 games with a pass caught. He has only caught 5 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown. He must be regretting his decision to come to Buffalo. I would like to compliment T.O. for keeping his cool under a difficult situation. He has grown up. I dont know how long things with last if he keeps logging numbers like this but well see what happens. We need to get him the ball some.

Lack of Leadership on "O"
The biggest thing missing is leadership on offense. Someone needs to step up and start pushing and challenging these guys. It doesn't really need to be the QB. Anybody to light a fire under these guys!!! Leading by example would be nice except I think Fred Jackson has done that but to no avail.

Re...To Unacceptable...and miscellaneous points
If I remember correctl Lee only had 4 catches yesterday but I could have sworn that at least 1 or 2 of them were over the middle. Has this team ever heard of the play action? I would think their running game is respected enough to get some sort of bite from the D?Everyone has a bad game now and then and I guess the o-line was due for one given their experience. Good that it came now in the beginning of the season and against a non-division/ conference opponent...get it fixed now! Was it just me or did it look like Thomas' foot was out at the 2 on his first td run??? Maybe challenge and hold to 3 pts or hold on downs or delay the inevitable???Bottom line there has to be soem accountability on this team...Jauron/ Edwards/o-line/d...someone needs to step up and act like a leader...(maybe qb?) I'm not looking for a cheerleader but someone who takes control in the offensive/defensive huddless. There may be...who knows...but if there is it needs to change! Maybe Edwards/Evans stepping up in the huddle and getting the ship righted. Must I mention again that Keith Ellison is nto a starter in this league, back-up yes, starter...NO. There are countless times he can't shed blocks, gets juked, or just can't tackle! Here's to a must win vs the Dolphins...GO BILLS!!!
09/28/2009 10:00AM
Ok,OK
Trent can not pass a long a ball into traffic. Does anybody know where is Kawika Mitchell??? He talks a lot but makes not plays AT ALL. The o-line looked soft...bad snaps etc. AVP will have a ruff year as he has a lack of experience. Overall a good call on the Defense.
09/28/2009 10:27AM
What did you expect??
You just played the BEST team in the league and threw them completely off their primary game!! The Bills will be just fine. The Saints are going to make a LOT of teams think they suck this year!!
09/28/2009 10:50AM
Mr.Juron
Just be a man, and please resign, from being a head coach.Until this happens The Bills will jsut rot in sub-500 ville.

QB controversy
Trent Edwards or Brian Moorman?????
09/28/2009 12:58PM
Just 13 games left
TO has already emotionally checked out on this season. He's seen enough to realize that this team isn't going anywhere with the coaching staff and personnel it has. Not bad work for running a few routes per game and getting $6.5 mil for doing it... I'm thinking the same thing but unfortunately not getting paid.

New QB controversy brewing in buffalo: Trent Edwards vs. Brian Moorman
09/28/2009 2:35PM
O-Line
Yeah you can blame Hangartner for the weak shotgun snaps, but he was injured all week and was questionable at game time. Trying to snap with a bad back is prob a little difficult when you have a 300 pound nosetackle blasting you. He could have took himself out but after your starting left tackle goes down and leaves you with 4 rookies or career backups on the field there really wasnt an option for him. How about a gd formation under center. I'm sorry but im putting alot on AVP. He didnt have these guys ready to play and was tentative at best, and down right scared at many points. if your line isnt protecting well send in a couple plays with medium routes. BTW what happened to the screen pass?
09/28/2009 6:13PM
momentum
There are all in moments of a football game- Coach J never makes that bet and we lose because of it. Change your philosphy is not like its a winning one.

Russ Brandon
START THINKING ABOUT TRADE TALKS RUSS. NOW , IMMEDIATELY PLEASE.
09/28/2009 6:50PM
Take a seat, Trent
You can't get the job done. Time to sit the bench. Let's see what FITZ can do.

Jauron Call
Nick, you downplay the call to punt. It didnt cost them the game. However, this is just the latest episode of a long string of similar head scratchers. The decision to punt there is a microcosm of this team, and is why we see results like we do. Also, another episode before the half of nobody knowing what the heck was going on, running in circles, then finally calling a timeout 15 seconds later. Brandon, Modrak, Guy, Jauron, need to be shipped out ASAP so we can get a real football mind in who has a clue on how to win football games. The sooner we get someone in who can start evaluating and implementing, the better.

Same Old Bills
Be prepared Bills fans...Dicky will gain Ralphys trust back with wins against the Dolphins who will have a QB making his first ever start and the horrible Browns who cant score. Also Trent will look good because they are terrible teams and then all Dicky and Trent have to do is win 4 of the last 11 games to get to their consistent7-9, and then Ralphy will hold a presser at the end of the season saying how their will be no changes made to the coaching staff because they are a close group with commrodiry and the players need to perform. Then we will have the football genuis John Guy bring in 25 veteran free agents and not sign any of them but sign rookies or 1 year pros off other teams practice squads. This will be the same old Bills next year...So glad we signed that 5th rd pick off someones practice squad, sure didnt look like we could use John Runyans veteran prescence to calm down the rookies, bunch of morons

Hey DICK Jauron - Show some Leadership!
- Hey DICK, you couldn't motivate a human being to MOE-THE-LAWN. How are you a Leader and Head Coach ??

Legacy of the Bills:
"Legacy" of the Buffalo Bills:When all is said and done, and this franchise is somewhere else, history will give an honest review and say the following. After 50 years in Buffalo, the team had one brief stint of success that lasted 6 years. Other than that the franchise is best known for being 'minor league' from the ownership on down. Little respect will be given to the fans who so richly supported the organization for generations, only to be spat upon by the owner, management and a large number of players (in the later years).

3rd and 3 Phobia
Fair points about checking down. The past three weeks I have watched Trent on several 3rd and 3's have ample time to release a ball 3-5 yards off the line, hold it for a practical infinity....and wind up sacked or incomplete. We're not talking about finding Owens or Evans 25 yards down field. Who's calling these plays??? 3 step drop, throw the ball!!! Concerning the injuries, why? Anyone ever hear of a conditioning program, these guys never stay healthy. Don't see the same list of casualties in Baltimore, and those guys bring it hard EVERY play.
09/29/2009 3:34AM
We All Smell LOSERS AGAIN
Lets face the facts - Trent Edwards will never lead an NFL team to a Superbowl. Can anyone honestly tell me or anyone else that this guy is the guy that will lead the bills to their 5th Superbowl??? NO is the answer. So Lets start looking for that guy.
09/29/2009 12:40PM
fric and frac
Trent Edwards and Dick He-shouldn't-even-bother-using-his-last-name Jauron, are fric and frac, strict game management guys (managing losses, that is).
But let's ship these love birds out of town. They suck.
09/29/2009 1:42PM
moorman
The Bills already have a far better quarterback than Trent Edwards in
Brian Moorman, but simply don't have either the vision or the honesty to admit it.
09/29/2009 3:18PM
Question
I realize it's Terrell Owens but how much sense does it make that the interview that draws the most attention is from a guy who had zero impact in the game. How about holding the center's feet to the fire for rolling the ball back to the QB, how about asking Dick Jauron about his viewpoints on having won 2 of his last 25 against teams with a winning record. I'm probably not with the majority but I could care less what a guy who didn't make a catch has to say about the game. Give me someone who had an impact. Where's Russ Brandon????
09/30/2009 5:28PM
..."Just going with the plays that are called"
T.O. , Trent, Lee are all saying that theyre going with the plays that are callled. SSSO! This actuallt translates to "We need a new Coach/Leader and Offensive Coordinator". The End
