The victory was Johnson’s second at the Daytona 500, who also held off challenges from Brad Keselowski and Greg Biffle. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second. Mark Martin came home third.
Danica Patrick also made history in the race, becoming the first woman to also hold a lead. However, she started to fade in the final laps and finished in eighth place.
On the 33rd lap of the Daytona 500, a major car wreck occurred that knocked Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick out of the race. Both drivers were okay after the crash.
