Newark, NJ (WGR550) -- Tim Kennedy's first career NHL goal was the difference for the Buffalo Sabres in their 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center Wednesday night. Ryan Miller was solid in goal again as well, out-dueling Martin Brodeur at The Rock.
Clarke MacArthur has given the Sabres an early 1-0 lead on the New Jersey Devils with his rebound chance put past Brodeur. The goal, only 1:21 seconds into the game, was assisted by Craig Rivet and Jason Pominville. Rivet let the initial shot go from the point and was stuffed home on the second chance by MacArthur. Kennedy upped the score to 2-0 with his first career NHL goal. The South Buffalo-native beat Brodeur for the goal, which was assisted by Jochen Hecht and Steve Montador.
The first power play of the game yielded a goal for the Devils and cuts into the Buffalo lead, 2-1 in the second period. Andy Greene notched the power play score to cut the lead to one. Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise were credited with assists as well. Paul Gaustad was in the penalty box after being called for a two-minute minor penalty for hooking.
Gaustad scored midway through the third period to give the Sabres their second two-goal lead of the game. Montador and Matt Ellis received assists on the insurance marker. It was the second assist of the game for the defenseman, and his third overall on the season.
The Devils had a golden opportunity later in the period when the Sabres were called for minor penalties minutes apart. Pominville was whistled for goaltender interference and Gaustad was called for high sticking. Pominville's penalty expired as Gaustad was headed to the box. However, New Jersey was called for too many men on the ice with :30 to go in Gaustad's minor.
Pominville's third goal of the season gave the team a three-goal lead with only three minutes to go in the final stanza. The goal came on the power play after Niclas Bergfors was called for high sticking. Chris Butler and Tim Connolly assisted on the power play score. Grier took a hooking penalty with under one-minute to go in the game, but Miller and Co. killed it off and clinched the 4-1 win.
Miller made 31 saves for his seventh win of the season, while Brodeur stopped 23 of Buffalo's 27 shots on goal. Buffalo was 1 for 4 on the power play and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill. The team is also 4-0 on the road with the victory.
