LB Brandon Spikes visiting One Bills Drive

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- Out of the three free agent signings the Buffalo Bills have made, none have been the splashy signing that some fans yearn for. If they land one of their Friday free agent visits, the splash factor will be heightened.

The Bills announced that free agent linebacker Brandon Spikes is making his official visit in Orchard Park.

Spikes, 26, has been a starter during all four of his seasons with the New England Patriots to begin his NFL career. Over that time, he has a total of 286 tackles in 39 starts. He's a noted run defender that would slot in as the team's middle linebacker if they were to strike an agreement.

GM Doug Whaley told WGR Sports Radio 550 on Friday morning that Kiko Alonso would be moving from middle linebacker over to the weakside, opening up the position for a new starter with some size and ability to both take on and shed blocks.

Spikes is said to have a very close relationship with former Patriots coach and current member of the Bills' defensive staff, Pepper Johnson.

Joining him at One Bills Drive on Friday is free agent running back Anthony Dixon. Over the past four seasons in San Francisco, Dixon has carved a niche as one of the team's top special teams players. The 6-foot-1, 233-pound running back also has 148 carries for 458 yards and eight touchdowns over his time in the NFL.

What do you think about the Bills acquisition of Matt Cassel?
I like it. They can win with Cassel, a strong run game and great defense.
I don't like it. He's done nothing since his big year in 2010.
The Bills should still bring in another QB to compete.
