MacArthur elects arbitration; Rookie camp starts

(WGR 550) -- How much money does a 24-year old 17-goal scorer deserve? Clarke MacArthur is about to find out.

The winger, who has played in parts of three seasons with the Sabres, is coming off his longest campaign yet, and has elected to file for arbitration rather than accept Buffalo's qualifying offer. The restricted free agent joins a list that includes 17 others league-wide, including Colby Armstrong, Travis Zajac and Tom Plekanec.

Arbitration hearings will run from July 20 to Aug. 4, and the deadline to file is 5 p.m. Monday.

The Sabres are holding a summer development camp for their rookies and prospects, beginning Monday and running through July 10 at Dwyer Arena in Niagara University. Monday's practice begins at 10:15 a.m., and the following players will be there:

Well he played his card
Wouldn't be surprised if he was moved prior to his hearing. I just don't see us giving him a raise based on last year. Although, I really can't think of too many comparable players to his "production" or lack there of. So maybe his salary will go down to the min of 85% of last year's? Wouldn't that be funny.

Don't do it.
I wouldn't give him money for bus fare home. Completely unmotivated. He just doesn't have the ability to "get up" for every game. Seems like he has to force himself. The Sabres need less players like this, and more players that are self-motivating and have a natural passion for the game. And knowing how arbitration goes, they'll look at the goal total, and give him a ridiculous number. It's a waste of money is what it is, and that's not a good thing for a franchise that's already: A. Overpaid for certain players. B. Doesn't always like to spend to the cap anyway.

He played hard and scored 17 goals in spite of being shoved around to different lines and benched a lot. Gees, give credit where credit is due!
