Maybin On Bills' Trade Block?

To say that the Buffalo Bills haven't gotten what they would have liked from Aaron Maybin through his first two seasons in the NFL may just be the understatement of the year.

Maybin has a grand total of 15 solo tackles, zero sacks and one forced fumble in 27 appearances over the course of the past two seasons. Maybin went through a stretch where head coach Chan Gailey didn't dress him for five consecutive games during the 2010 season. Injuries forced Maybin back on to the active roster on gamedays, but he never even got out on the field during special teams.

Now in his third training camp, Maybin has shown a flash here or there, but for all intents and purposes he's lacked in showing that he can be a difference maker. Not only that, he looks lighter than ever and officially weighed in with the team at 228-pounds.

So with all that said, it's easy to imagine why NFL.com's Michael Lombardi reports that the Bills are trying to shop their 2009 first round pick.

"I hear the Bills would love to have someone take first-round bust defensive end Aaron Maybin off their hands and are offering him up for trade to any team -- but so far no takers."

I can't imagine any team would actually want to give up a future draft pick or someone off their roster for his services. If Maybin couldn't even crack the lineup on one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season, how exactly would he make an impact for anyone else?

My best guess? This is a last ditch effort to try and trade away his contract so the Bills don't have to swallow the three remaining years left on his deal and the $9 million against the cap that stems from his $15 million in guaranteed money. But if they can't find any takers, which I don't think they will, then I think his days are numbered in Buffalo.
