Media Day, Wk3

(WGR 550) -- An update on Wednesday's Bills media day:

Injuries: Geoff Hangartner, Josh Reed (quad) and Paul Posluszny (arm) were the only Bills not participating in the portion of Wednesday's practice the media is allowed to watch. Tight end Shawn Nelson was limited, but practiced, and Dick Jauron expects him to play.  Leodis McKelvin practiced fully today.

New addition to the offensive line: Jauron was asked why the Bills opted for young lineman Jamon Meredith from Green Bay's practice squad instead of an available veteran like Jon Runyan. The Bills head coach said his staff liked the South Carolina product, who can play as both a guard and tackle.

"Sean (Kugler) and Ray (Brown) really liked Meredith at his work-out," Jauron said. "And we had the luxury of Kirk (Chambers)."

Faith in the offense: Trent Edwards talked about how plays like the reverse to Terrell Owens, the long pass play calls and going for it on fourth down give the offense confidence by seeing the faith their coaching staff. Wide-out Lee Evans agreed, but Jauron said it isn't a matter of growing confidence.

"I wouldn't say that," Jauron said. "I've always been pretty confident. I like those plays. Terrell made a pretty good run to start us off with a kinda big play. The fourth down was so short, I was pretty comfortable going in our end with the sneak. When those plays don't go for you, it's a pretty (bad decision)."

Shiner: Trent Edwards is sporting a black eye, which he claims came courtesy of Fred Jackson. Jackson denied responsibility and joked that he had to find Edwards and give him a matching one for suggesting he played a role in the facial bruise. This is not really "news."

Honored: Rian Lindell was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Tampa Bay. He went 4-for-4 with field goals of 20, 27, 31 and 43 yards to go with three extra points.

Hopeline: The Bills and Verizon Wireless are teaming up to help women who've been the victims of domestic abuse. The cell phone company will collect used and broken phones at the gates to Sunday's game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, and will refurbish or recycle them for use by the victims. The Bills collected more than 750 phones last year. Kawika Mitchell is the drive's spokesperson, and will be signing autographs at the Verizone Wireless kiosk at the Walden Galleria Mall on Wednesday (Sept. 23) evening at 6 p.m.
