The Buffalo Bills weren't as productive along the offensive line as they had been in the two years prior to 2013. At offensive tackle specifically, the Bills needed much more out of their right tackle position than what they got.
Heading into the 2014 NFL Draft, a right tackle could be brought in at some point to pair with Cordy Glenn heading into the upcoming season.
While the tackle group is pretty straight forward, there are some later round players available that have some potential in the NFL.
Here are my initial rankings of offensive tackles available in this year's class: (Keep in mind that these are overall rankings, not who the Bills may be looking for and targeting.)
Greg Robinson, Auburn
Jake Matthews, Texas A&M
Zack Martin, Notre Dame
Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama
Taylor Lewan, Michigan
Morgan Moses, Virginia
Billy Turner, North Dakota State
Seantrel Henderson, Miami (FL)
Antonio Richardson, Tennessee
Jack Mewhort, Ohio State
Joel Bitonio, Nevada
Cornelius Lucas, Kansas State
Michael Schofield, Michigan
James Hurst, North Carolina
Ja'Wuan James, Tennessee
Cameron Fleming, Stanford
Justin Britt, Missouri
Charles Leno, Boise State
Kenarious Gates, Georgia
Kevin Graf, USC
More thorough breakdowns of the rankings and players will be coming throughout the weeks and months leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft.
I would take G Robinson or J Matthews with are first pick over a wr we got two good ones in S Johnson and R Woods a good line makes a qb better and your running game as of Washington Hogs help them win 3 super bowls with 3 deference qb
I could handle this one
Trade Byrd to get another 1st round pick and grab one of the top 5 OT's mentioned after we take a star receiver with our own first pick. Jake Matthews would be perfect if he is on the board. I voted trade Byrd also on the fan poll. Use Byrd to get that stud offensive lineman.
Is this a WR or Tackles list?
WHATS THIS JOE ?
YOUR RANKING OT`S AS WIDE RECEIVERS, WAY TO GO JOE !
THE BILLS NEED AN UP GRADE AT RIGHT TACKLE
THE BILLS SHOULD CONSIDER TRYING TO SIGN JETS FREE AGENT RT AUSTIN HOWARD TO A 6 YEAR 20 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT. HOWARD HAS BEEN MUCH IMPROVED IN THE LAST TWO YEARS & IS RATED JUST A LITTLE UNDER A NOTCH OF A PRO BOWL CALIBER TYPE OF PLAYER. AND SINCE THAT OUR MARIO WILLIAMS HAS HAD SUCH A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING A SACK OR TACKLES AGAINST THE 6`7" 345 POUND HOWARD, AND PLUS THIS TYPE OF ACQUISITION WOULD ALSO WEAKEN THE JETS OFFENSE LINE A LITTLE. WE COULD THEN DRAFT A ROOKIE OT IN THE LATTER ROUNDS TOO. I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT HARRISON, HE HAS A CHRONIC BACK PROBLEM & HAS MENTIONED IN THE PAST HE NEVER TRULY LOVED THE GAME OF FOOTBALL, BUT WAS JUST BIG ENOUGH & GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY THE GAME, SO I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT HIS TRUE HEART OR COMMITMENT FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME ?
In the 5th paragraph, you wrote "Here are my initial rating of wide receivers" instead of offensive tackles
thats a need for the bills
And don't forget lg; our line is missinga few peices of course we need ot but we also need depth at all the postion. the bills are hoping that some of the players they got on the practce squard will take that next step. and i think they can because some of them have do have skills already to play in the nfl. well they are going to get TE we need that threat in the middle with chandler. We will see A tall wide out on the bills this year; I think they draft one, but don't forget they got two or three onthe practice team. that we haven't seen play. Then they want a running back. To give fj,spliller, to come in and pick up that slack.if they get all these needs from the draft or trade free angent; than we can finally see the bills in the playoffs. Because jim i thinkis going to make our d even harder and better than lasted year. without missing a beat.
Tackle sounds right. You can have the best WRs in the game, whatgoodare they if your QB can't get the ball to them??
why not just 5 ?
wow Joe!!! 20? one for each finger n toe? what great news is this list? you can find same list from any sports site? give us some juicy tidbits?
Offensive is correct
He does an article about Offensive Tackles and presents a list or Wide Receivers.
What a tool> ??????
these are your "initial rankings of wide receivers"....we are screwed mate
OT & G
Good job again ranking O lineman, another big need for Bills.I hope that they draft well and p/u OT & OG in this draft and don't forget QB either!Maybe moving down and getting extra 2nd or 3rd would be the way to go again this year. Those 3 knee injuries by EJ worry me & all we have is T.Lewis as a backup!
re:to is this WR or Tackle list.
The rest of us made it the tackle list. We didn't know what joe was talking about in the first place. Because if joe think we should draft wr with the first pick; thats just crazy talk. And we need a ot,lg two. because we need these players to protect our qb; And open the holes up for our running backs. And after that you still got to go to the TE postion. And if their a WR on the board at that time then you get him. What joe dosen't understand is the top WR; are going to be gone when the bills pick. So you go with your needs first. I'm i the only one that think that this is the way to go. Or is joe way of thinking is the way to go?
Nobody wants to admit that the Bills need a quarterback!
They reached for one in the last draft -and he was the wrong one!
he might be right?
would anyone want to tackle a 300 pound plus man running at you? maybe Joe has a good point? might not be fast but a load to bring down?
why is drew Stafford still a sabre?
another good pick up marrone.
Getting hostler was a smart move. He brings knowledge at the WR postion and the offense. And on the john murphy show he said under hackett he will do a great job with the offense. And if hackett get a offer for a head coaching job one day. he will be able to step in and take over with out missing a beat. Now thats a great hire. We got a few more position to fill; but i like how the front office is not looking for a guy who only knows just that position but other position as well. great job. hey lets get byrd signed; and the rested of them so we can really come on the ground running.
Clearly the case of a guy watching tape/film and not actual games. Lewan is the most NFL-ready tackle in the draft.
Lets Go Buff-a-lo !!!!!
We do not need a QB! If they wanna take a late round QB no problem. WE need O-Line help and we should consider trading Marcell or Jarius Byrd for a 1st rd pick. It might not be possible but , we are stacked at D-line and Saftey. When staff moved A. Williams back to his normal position it gave us a nice starting saftey duo if Bryd was to leave. Williams and Seacy are good and have a high ceilling. I would love to keep bryd tho. Im just trrying to open up some holes. Draft O-Line and secondary help. Re-Sign Chandler make a move in Free agency for a Vet QB to help E.J. maybe another wideout but we have a great stable at WR by next yr Goodwin and Grahme might be coming into there own so I wouldnt draft a wideout to before the 3rd round. Ok I can keep going but have to work now. Russ call me if you need some help..LOL....GO BILLS!!!!
re: to lets go buff-a-lo!!!!!
Most of your comments made sense. Untill lets trade byrd comment. you don't trade a probowl player that you know is going to be like a general in the middle of the feild. Ok we know about the contract and all that. Just get the thing done and move on. And putting a tag on him isn't the answer either. he has show you he wants to be a bill and prove it on the feild. So pay the man. Please don't let this drag out again; because its only hurts both sides. Lets go ruff buff.
