The NHL Entry Draft is an annual event, and the Sabres are drafting in spots where other notable players have been drafted in years' past.  Holding eight picks in the draft, let's check out some other notable players that have gone in the same positions in the past few years in the first three rounds.

12th overall: Sabres fans may be familiar with who the team chose in the 2008 draft.  Tyler Myers was a former 12th overall pick.  Other notable players selected 12th overall: D Ryan McDonagh (2007, Montreal) and D Marc Staal (2005, New York Rangers).

21st overall: The Sabres acquired this pick from the Nashville Predators for Paul Gaustad.  Players like G Tuuka Rask (2005, Toronto) and D Anton Volchenkov (2000, Ottawa) were also taken with the 21st overall selection in other drafts.

42nd overall: F Justin Abdelkader (2005, Detroit); F Devante Smith-Pelley (2010, Anaheim)

44th overall: Buffalo selected center Luke Adam 44th overall in the 2008 draft.  They also hold another former 44th overall pick in Jordan Leopold, drafted by Anaheim in 1999.  Other notable 44th overall picks: G Ilya Bryzgalov (2000, Anaheim); D Matt Greene (2002, Oilers);  F Paul Stastny (2005, Colorado); F Nikolai Kulemin (2006, Toronto)

73rd overall: G Craig Andereson (2001, Chicago); D Yannick Weber (2007, Montreal)

133rd overall: No notable players in the past 12 years.

163rd overall: Brad Richardson (2003, Colorado)

193rd overall: Brooks Laich (2001, Washington)
