J.B. Shugarts, #76
Ohio State
6'5", 310 lbs., 22 years old
Klein, TX
PROS
- Long-term starter at right tackle for one of the best programs in college football.
- A player that possesses a nasty streak that you love to see in offensive linemen.
- A good run blocker if/when he latches on to his assignment.
CONS
- Terrible balance. Gets caught on his heels after being knocked off the initial spot and loses his man.
- Lacks overall quickness to contain the edge on an outside rush.
- Slow reaction time off snap allows defenders to blow right by him at times.
- Too much of a leaner in pass protection.
Special Notes:
- Turns 23 in October.
- Father, Bret Shugarts, played for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Projection: Late round to Undrafted
- Despite his father having played in the NFL, J.B. isn't all that great of a draft prospect. I expect him to get some looks at the bitter end of the draft or at the very least a training camp tryout, but I'm not all that optimistic about his future as a pro.
