NFL Draft Report

By Joe Buscaglia

OT Mike Adams, Ohio State

Mike Adams, #75
Ohio State
6'7", 323 lbs., 21 years old
Dublin, OH

- A strong, mauling run blocker that can get to the second level with his block giving the runner a lane. Always looking for someone to hit until the play is dead on runs.
- His height gives him an advantage because he can take long strides to help thwart speed rushers around the edge.
- He's got a bit of a mean streak to him during the play. He'll give an extra shove every once and again.
- Had a strong performance throughout the week of practice at the Senior Bowl according to multiple reports.

- Really struggles at changing directions if the defender throws a pair of moves. Once he sinks his hips, it's tough for him to get out. 2011 1st round pick Adrian Clayborn really did a number on Adams in 2010.
- Has lapses in concentration from time to time with missed assignments in both pass and run. Hesitated on a blitz against Florida and let both outside and inside rusher in to the pocket.
- Might be too tall to play left tackle.

Special Notes:
- Turns 22 in March
- Started two seasons at left tackle with the Buckeyes.

Projection: 2nd to 3rd round
- Mike Adams more than held his own a lot of times at left tackle against some great Big Ten pass rushers. He held J.J. Watt at bay, when matched up against him, up until the end of the game in 2010. He's shown that he's a tremendous run blocker. But can he be depended on to keep his NFL quarterback upright while protecting his blind side? My gut feeling is that he's a right tackle in the league.
