Pominville, Wild Skate Past Sabres 4-1

Jason Pominville haunted his former team during a big second period for the Wild on Thursday, helping lift Minnesota to a 4-1 win over the Sabres. Buffalo managed only 20 shots on net in its second straight loss.

After a scoreless first, the Wild grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal courtesy of defenseman Marco Scandella. Joining the rush, Scandella took a feed from Matt Cooke and walked in on Miller, snapping a shot that wound up in the Buffalo net. Pominville made it 2-0 just 1:46 later, ripping the puck past Miller for his 18th of the season and second against his former team. Jason Zucker gave the Wild a three-goal lead later in the period with his first of the year.

Matt Ellis cut the Minnesota lead to two late in regulation, but Kyle Brodziak was awarded a goal after being hauled down to the ice during an empty net chance. The Sabres, who haven't won on the road since November 5 at San Jose, return home to face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday for a 7 p.m. faceoff. Hear the call on WGR 550.
