Sabres Come Back for 3-2 Shootout Win

On an unforgettable night in Boston, Cody Hodgson scored late in regulation and Drew Stafford scored the lone goal in the shootout, giving the Sabres the 3-2 victory. Buffalo is now 2 pts. back of 8th in the East.

An emotionally-charged TD Garden erupted 5:45 into the game when former Sabre, Daniel Paille, took a feed from Chris Kelly and snapped a shot past Miller to give Boston the early 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until Thomas Vanek tied the game 1-1 late in the opening period. Vanek got his stick on a Christian Ehrhoff point shot on the power play, tipping the puck past Anton Khudobin.

Boston regained the lead at the 14:48 mark of the second period on Chris Kelly's 3rd. The Bruins forward was able to lift the puck over the left pad of a sprawling Miller to give his team the 2-1 lead. Looking to put the game away, the B's peppered Ryan Miller with 17 shots in the final period, however the Buffalo netminder turned each of them aside. Miller, in an impressive effort, finished with 41 saves on the night.

The Bruins were trying to hang on to their one-goal lead when Andrew Ference was penalized for a delay of game call, sending the puck over the glass. With Miller on the bench and two extra skaters, Buffalo capitalized on another power play chance. Hodgson tapped it in with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. Following a scoreless overtime period -- one that featured excellent scoring chances for both clubs -- Stafford was the lone scorer in the shootout, beating Khudobin in the 3rd round.

Following the shootout, players from both teams skated to center ice and raised their sticks toward the crowd to chants of, "USA, USA" in a show of support for the city of Boston.

Buffalo (44 pts.) now sits two points behind the Rangers (46 pts.) and will host New York on Friday night. The Rangers have two games in hand and will face the Florida Panthers on Thursday. The Sabres are also two back of Winnipeg (46 pts.) and the Jets take on the Hurricanes tomorrow.
