Sabres Fire Regier, Rolston; Hire Lafontaine, Nolan

The Buffalo Sabres fired long-time General Manager Darcy Regier along with Head Coach Ron Rolston. Owner Terry Pegula was on hand at First Niagara Center in Downtown Buffalo on Wednesday morning to announce the hiring of former Sabre Pat Lafontaine - putting him in charge of Hockey Operations. Lafontaine's first move was hiring Ted Nolan as the interim head coach.

Nolan said all the assistant coaches will stay on.

"I would like to thank Darcy for his dedicated service to the Sabres," Pegula said.

Lafontaine said the search will begin for a new general manager. The former Sabre was asked by Pegula to become the next GM, but Lafontaine opted for the Hockey Ops position.

Keep it locked to WGR for more reaction from Terry Pegula, Ted Black, Pat Lafontaine and Ted Nolan
