Sabres trade Defenseman TJ Brennan

The Buffalo Sabres traded defenseman TJ Brennan to the Florida Panthers on Friday in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2013 entry draft. Brennan was unlikely to clear waivers, so getting a late round pick for the pending restricted free agent appeared to be the Sabres' best option.

Brennan was selected in the second round, 31st overall, in the 2007 draft. He played in 10 games with Buffalo in 2013, and tallied one goal.

03/15/2013 10:00PM
Burn Baby Burn
and Darcy fiddled while Hockey Heaven BURNED !!!!
03/15/2013 10:04PM
Pure genius
Draft him in the second round, waste time and money developing him, give him up for a whole 5th rounder - go work for the Bill's and Buddy Nix Darcy, you think alike.
03/15/2013 10:09PM
Pointless
Hey Darcy, Step down cause yer gonna get fired anyway, get a real gm and go get some players
03/15/2013 10:10PM
Darcy
Darcy should be fired because hes a bum. worst gm ever. he couldnt manage a burger king
03/15/2013 10:10PM
disgusted
absolutely disgusted by this trade. 23 year old defenseman with all the potential in the world and you trade him away for a 5th round pick. the kid averaged a point a game in rochester. if you want to rebuild a team you should probably start by not giving away one of your top defensive prospects. darcy needs to go. should have been out before ruff. florida got an absolute steal in this move
03/15/2013 10:11PM
TJ Gone??????????
Thata boy Darcy, how to get rid of your good young talent. So happy you're still our GM. You suck. Oh, but we still do have Jochen Hecht!!!!! How to protect our good young talent.
03/15/2013 10:15PM
Or they could have...............
........combined him with another player and gotten much more than a 5th round pick. This organization is downright baffling sometimes. They bring him up to be the savior of the power play, only to give him away for nothing because the power play is still atrocious. At least they traded him out of our division.....ooooops.......realignment type of oops.......
03/15/2013 10:24PM
This team is so screwd up
I can't believe that we had to keep this kids around to get a 5th round draft choice. Evey move darcy makes gets dumber
03/15/2013 11:20PM
More trades
Pomminvile, Leopold...
03/15/2013 11:35PM
THEY SAY HES GOT TALENT
I DIDNT SEE IT
03/15/2013 11:47PM
What a waste.
Darcy's gotta go!
03/15/2013 11:48PM
What a waste
Darcy's gotta go!!!

So Sad......
Before the season the WGR star hosts were all boasting how deep the Sabres were at "D". Of course none of them will admit it know. But anyways, a 5th round pick for a 2nd. round prospect. We aren't going to get the better end of any trade. This move shows how sad things are. Get use to it folks. We are in a rebuilding stage. Pegula can't buy his way out of this mess. I actually feel bad for him. Pegula means well and he is a better owner than the previous 2 Sabre owners and will do more in the next few years for the area than Ralph Wilson has done in 52 years. But I'm worried about those advising him about this team. They really missed the mark assessing the job the GM has done. He has to be a bit of a laughing stock in the eyes of other NHL hiearchy with the contract extensions he naively gave out to Regeir and Ruff and then having to turn around and dump then. Regier won't be here next year. But it's too late. This team is bad and it's best players/highest paid don't have the hockey temperament to be leaders and other teams around the league see this and won't overpay to acquire them if they're made available.
03/16/2013 1:13AM
Good Luck TJ
Sad to see you go best wishes
03/16/2013 1:14AM
Thnk you Darcy
The main thing I dont like about this is that Darcy made the trade. Does Pegula really have faith in Regier being the one to rebuild the team?
03/16/2013 3:13AM
Brilliant
So instead of waiving Gerbe....who wouldn't likely get claimed with $1.8 million owed on his contract next year...and who has two goals in his last 50 games dating to last year to go along with his 5'4" frame, they give up on what amounts to a late first round pick that they have invested three years development time into, for a fifth round pick. Way to go, Darcy. Another one for the books. Now what do you do with the coming logjam at forward? Ennis and Leino come back on Sat., Kaleta on Sunday. That means two healthy forward scratches for the Washington game and asuming that Leopold and Regher are drawing deadline day interest you just unloaded some defensive depth that could have really gotten a 10 game tryout once the Sabres are eliminated come the deadline. How does this guy keep his job? If I ran my busines like this I would have been out of business years ago.
03/16/2013 3:43AM
Whatever..
Another Darcy bust..trading a 2nd round for a 5th. Please leave Buffalo and never come back Darcy!
03/16/2013 5:33AM
Bumsfan
Wake up Pegula! If you believe this was the best move Darcy could make them please sell the team because you are as bad as the rest of the management.
03/16/2013 6:03AM
The Only Thing I could Add To All That's Been Posted Is....
Is almost spit my coffee out as I was driving down the road yesterday while listening to the show yesterday afternoon. One Of the callers made mention of the fact (well many did, but in this case) they sent Grigs back but didn't put Hecht on waivers. It almost sounded as if Mike was defending the Sabre's decision, saying maybe they were keeping him for trade bait? Really? If The entire NHL (except the Sabre's) hasn't wanted him in his career why is anyone going to want him at this late date. I mean any team could have had him for the asking at any time over the last several years. And NO ONE has. Except the Darcy and Lindy (And Now Ronny) Show. His logic is severely flawed if that is truely what he meant.
03/16/2013 6:10AM
The Day He Came Riding Into Town...
The Radio Personalities on this station (at the time; Chuck Dickerson, Art Wonder) were asking who is this idiot(Darcy)? Well, after 15 years we surely have our answer don't we? Of course, with this station, mostly in Pagula's pocket, most are too frightened to admit that.
03/16/2013 7:13AM
trade
and yet the cancer remains...Miller
03/16/2013 7:42AM
CHILL OUT
I want Darcy out of here as much as the next person but for all those acting as if the Sabres just traded a great player, knock it off. This guy had plenty of opportunities to show something at the NHL level and he didn't. Time to move on. I trust Paul Hamilton's opinion and he felt the same way.
03/16/2013 8:01AM
Bunch of cry babys
All you people just like to b*tch too much...if they would have lost him in waivers everyone would be saying why didn't you try to trade him? Obviously a 5th rounder was all he was gonna get. TJ was a good AHL player but he's not good enough for the NHL. Stop all your crying already, you give sabres fans and Buffalo a bad name!
03/16/2013 8:17AM
xwnyer99
Who coaches the Panthers?
03/16/2013 8:34AM
The Move that should have been made !!!!!!!!!!
The Sabres should have waived Jochen Hecht. Who cares if some team picks him up, is he really a threat? If I was the Sabres GM that would have been my move and wouldn't have thought twice about it !!!!!
03/16/2013 8:41AM
Keep the weak core
Young guys being shipped back and veteran dead weight stays. This team is not going anywhere and pushing out the potential future makes no sense. Boggles the mind. I guess as long as Hecht is playing as a Sabre - we have a future.
03/16/2013 8:51AM
So sad.....
This comes to show that the WGR idiot hosts know nothing and a beat reporter that is an idiot too. The WGR idiot hosts are just shills. There is nothing deep on this team unless you meant the Titanic. FIRE REGEIR!!! (Before the trade deadline...in otherwords...TODAY)
03/16/2013 8:55AM
Good trade
For a guy that had zero NHL talent. Nice job, Darcy. All these fools who think Brennan was the 2nd coming of Bobby Orr are blind and don't know hockey.
03/16/2013 9:00AM
Howard is turning into a DOUCHE like Hamilton
Omitting comment sections. Since those two are always wrong, they don't want to hear it from the experts which are us...the fans to put them in their place. Two know nothings like Jeremy and the nitwit Fisher to add.
03/16/2013 9:07AM
More to come....
This has to be a part of a bigger move on the horizon with Florida. Otherwise it makes zero sense from the Sabres standpoint. I predict you will hear of another deal very soon that will even this out.
03/16/2013 9:10AM
Are you kidding!
The guy is a ahl player, at best he might become Andy Delmore!
03/16/2013 9:23AM
mixed
Yes we needed to move a d-man, but why not one with more of a cap impact? On the other hand, Brennan, hasn't shown much on the NHL level, maybe he will be a career minor leaguer.
03/16/2013 9:29AM
Next:
Trade Sekera for pylons and Mistaaaa Softee for Perry's. Just waive Hecht and the shrimps. I'll be satisfied.
03/16/2013 9:45AM
Who's to Blame?
why dump on Darcy? he is doing the best he can? just look at all his successes? 0 Pegula is the one people should be angry with- maybe if he took his head out of his wallet for a minute he might figure no matter how many players he buys it doesn'tmean you will win- maybe spend some money on a decent coach and GM?Pegula may know how to pass gas but needs help with his GM/Coach constipation?
03/16/2013 9:58AM
5th Round Pick?
Could've gotten more than a 5th round. I was hoping they could have had a Bob Corkum for the playoff push.
03/16/2013 10:33AM
re: Burnsfan
You are a moron.
03/16/2013 10:38AM
I didn't like
this kid but to give him away for basically nothing are you kidding me Darcy? He will beome a good player in this league under Dineen.
03/16/2013 11:34AM
Down with Darcy!!!
I'm sick of this dude. Seriously trade good young talent for a 5th rd pick come on man. Terry needs to wake up and realize the GM is the problem fire this man he deserves to work at a McDonalds... oh wait he will probably mess them up to!
03/16/2013 11:45AM
Darcy At His Best
Please Mr. Pegula, please, please get rid of Darcy before you have NO prospects left. Right now I would replace him with your wife Kim. I truly believe she would be more capable of constructing a hockey team before that clown does. Can't you see the water swirling already???????
03/16/2013 12:06PM
Live from my Armchair
Source: Darcy will be fired soon. (e4) Enter: Rick Dudley as General Manager. (e4) Coach to be determined after the season. (Patrick Roy e3) Miller rumors out west three teams. (e4) Sekera to the Sharks. (e2) Hecht to be waived. (e4) Gerbe to be waived. (e4) Stay tuned for any breaking e5's...
03/16/2013 12:16PM
I have given up!
Sabres fan from the beginning. This is the last straw for me. I fed up with the lack of management this team has displayed in the last 15 years. Trade a 2nd round for a 5th? This is a joke and a laughing stock deal to the rest of league. Buffalo looks like a joke to the rest of the league right now. If Darcy doe snot get fired at the end of the season, then Pegula loses all respect from fans and the league.
03/16/2013 12:31PM
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Construction is starting to rev for Harbor Center. Darcy will be fired after this 48 game pre-season. Terry Pegula is no dummy. The Empire Sports Network will be brought back right in the new complex 2014. Goodbye GR clowns!!! Jerry Sullivan as the new beat reporter? Carrot Top and Roby going at it again and Howard Simon coming back to reality doing the old Howard on Empire. Just a few of the new thangs. All from Harbor Center. THINK BIG AND TOUGH!!! Most likely though Shillvester and Peters will be kept to bore us to death. The rest of the nitwits from GR clown acts...SEE YA!!!
03/16/2013 1:13PM
Brennen a so-so player
2007 draft pick should have been playing much more by now anyway, Florida is looking to sell at the deadline and he is something to have around. Better a 5th round pick than nothing
03/16/2013 1:30PM
Makes sense.....
Brennan was drafted in 2007. That's six years, and he still has not made much of an impact. At least they got something. He probably would not have cleared waivers. I rather see him in Miami as opposed to some place like Boston or Pittsburgh. No problem with this move.
03/16/2013 1:43PM
Odd trade
Why trade him now for just a 5th round pick. It just seems stupid. The Sabres are so mismanaged. Way past time for Darcy to go.
03/16/2013 2:06PM
Ottawa at Buffalo 3PM
LET'S START THE FIRE REGEIR CHANT!!! Alfredsson punks Miller for a hat trick. Sens 5, Sabres 2.
03/16/2013 2:16PM
Hamilton in full shill mode vs. Ottawa in pre game ints.
Have another cheeseburger Paul!!!
03/16/2013 2:46PM
Darcy has done well
This is a good deal for us...well, the best deal we could have gotten. There was no place for Brennan. He's an AHL defenseman - face it. A 5th round pick in a deep draft isn't a bad deal. Darcy makes a great move, yet again!
03/16/2013 2:52PM
is Tom still interested?
is Tom Galisano still interested in buying back the Sabres? I know all he wanted was not to lose money BUT at least the team won some games? the Sabres will give away good talent and keep the slugs
03/16/2013 6:13PM
Well done, Darcy
You are the only GM that can turn a 2nd rounder into a 5th rounder. Nice job of drafting & trading. Mr, Pegula, with this guy at the helm, we will achieve the ultimate goal -HOCKEY HELL !!!!!!!
03/16/2013 7:03PM
Brennan
Glad to see him go. I wish suckera could have been thrown in.
03/16/2013 7:32PM
Look At The Mon. Mornin' QB's
First , Regier already said that they would have lost him , Brennan , by putting him om the waiver , so , the next thing is to get what they could get. But , all you " Mon. mornin' QB's " miss the point . He only played 10 games , and didn't work out . And playing in the AHL , is NOT like playing in the NHL . Maybe if the Panthers can wait for him to play in the NHL , but Buffalo couldn't . Besides , picking a draft , is more like winning a lottery , it can happen , but you will be hit my lighting more than win .
03/16/2013 10:05PM
RE: So Sad...
I agree w/ you 100%. I think once Darcy is gone, one of these high-paid inconsistent hot-n-cold players (Stafford or Leino come to mind) needs to be considered for the amnesty buy-out. Some veteran players need to be traded without concern of getting a major return, just for the sake of cap space, and this team needs to be rebuilt starting w/ a true "change of culture" aquistion, similar to what Minnesota did last summer, even if it means trading some assets that some fans may be hesitant of parting ways with.
03/17/2013 12:04AM
Come On
This team needs big, tough defensemen that are strong in their own end. That isn't Brennan. Our 2 highest paid D (that we're stuck with) already have offensive skills but backcheck like girls playing field hockey. Ship out some more scrubs! .
03/17/2013 2:57PM
Idiots
and I'm not referring to Darcey. I'm talking about 90% of the comments here. Why do you all think that Brennen is this amazing dman? and you all must have forgot how we acquired Hodgson. Idiots
03/17/2013 4:49PM
It's to late,,,
Two years ago Darcy needed to be let go, noe it will take two years to recover from his blunders,,give him some more time hill give away somemore young players,,
03/19/2013 10:29AM
Hecht
We ain't going to get squat for Hecht, so we keep him and let a 21 year go. Great move Darcy. Dineen outsmarted you.
