Slump busters?

nick@wgr550.com

(WGR 550) -- After dogged competition versus Pittsburgh and Ottawa this week, the Sabres might want to thank the West that they aren't facing another hot team, albeit one mired at the bottom of the standings.

The Carolina Hurricanes are in town for a 7:30 p.m. Friday tilt, and the cellar dwellers had a nice four-game winning streak going before heading to the road this week. The Canes played Monday and Friday, losing to the Oilers and Flames by a combined score of 8-3.

Sabres fans will get a first-hand look at Ray Whitney, the veteran forward expected to be dealt by the deadline. The Canes are looking for a first-round pick and Whitney wants a three-year extension to waive his no-trade clause. The 37-year-old forward has 16 goals and 25 assists this year, numbers very much akin to Jason Pominville's with Buffalo this season.

Buffalo will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid that's a part of a 3-5-2 stretch for the team.

Pregame starts at 6:30 p.m. with Rick Jeanneret joining Mike Schopp and The Bulldog from HSBC Arena.

Whitney Would Be Great
One more veteran forward who will score big goals for us and keep the younger guys moving. It's a good idea.

Cullen would be a better option
Along with also being a former Cup winner, he's got the speed and two-way ability to fit into Ruff's system. With Kennedy faltering and Gaustad producing less, having Cullen as a 2nd or 3rd line center would add needed depth.

Grammar?
I don't get your use of "albeit" in first paragraph. It doesn't make sense in this context. If they were, in fact, a hot team then you could say that they are "a hot team, albeit one mired at the bottom of the standings." C'mon man.

Dude, it's in the article "numbers akin to Pominvilles." NO THANKS

Whitney Would Be Great...for a few months maybe
I'm sorry but I could not justify granting a 37 year old forward in this league a 3 year contract extension - especially because it's not like you're going to get Ray Whitney on the cheap.

Kennedy
I am not so sure Kennedy is faltering as much as hitting that wall. The Olympic break I feel will be better to him than what most think. It's just a shame Myers didn't get to represent (did he?)
