Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- The Buffalo Bills announced last week that they've re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, with the player himself saying it's a one-year deal. Details of the contract were not initially disclosed, but a league source tells WGR Sports Radio 550 that Jackson's deal is worth $1.75 million over that lone year. But there are incentives that could bring Jackson more money, based on playing time.
Jackson's contract carries a base salary of $1.25 million, including a $450,000 roster bonus and a $50,000 workout bonus which all adds up to the $1.75 million cap number for 2013. According to Pro Football Talk.com, Jackson will earn an additional $500,000 if he takes half the snaps next season.
He gets another $750,000 if he takes 60% of the snaps. There will be an extra $1 million for Jackson if he gets 65% of the snaps. So, it could be a 1 year, $4.5 million deal if Jackson reaches all of the playing time incentives.
Bills head coach Doug Marrone said in the intiial press release linked to the re-signing that he informed both Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick that there would be an open competition at quarterback to be the starter.
The Bills and the rest of the NFL are in Indianapolis for the 2013 Scouting Combine.
Did this guy even suit up last year? Why are the Bills doing this? Base salary of $1.25 mil...He's the CEO of himself.
Why hasn't Fitzpatrick been cut yet ?????
And so it begins.......
New coaching staff and same old same old. Who believes Jackson with a better camp than Fitzgerald will get the nod to start though he makes over 8 Mil. less ?
what a waste of money
a backup quarterback who hasnt played in a year..a whole team full of backup quarterbacks another wasted year for a team going no where
Let the crying begin!
So now every uneducated rube in Buffalo in typing away on their moms computer about how stupid the Bills are. I guess WGR must covet these dopes. Keep the stupid listener around and your audience won't see how ignorant and lazy the hosts are.
Seems like a pretty good deal for the Bills. You get a veteran backup QB with starting experience at an affordable price. Now they need to just make sure they draft a QB who is better than Jackson, so he is in fact the backup.
NOW DUMP FITZ
Good move now dump Fitz as he has proven not to be a starting QB in this league. Draft a player in the 1st or 2nd round and let him compete against Jackson. I would rather suffer a year with these two versus going through the pain of seeing Fitzpatrick under center.
Drew in Cheektoweirda
After reading the contract specs,i must say with a potential 250k short of 2 mil,for 1 yr,a good bet. Although it will be 2 yrs since playing,i read into it as a future insurance policy and measure to whack Fitz,(at some time not soon enough), and retain Levitre and Byrd. Could be a cost saving measure to free up cap space for FA's.

Get rid of Fritz and draft Tyler Wilson or Mike Glennon to battle for the starting job with TJax and Corp and a cheaper FA. The reason Fritz is still here is he and the new coach have the same agent.
Nassib is a Massib Bust!!
Watching Ryan Nassib not even reach top 10 status in any measurables at the combine(perhaps Wunderlich)underscores how much WGR prognosticators are actually just fans and not anywhere near experts. The Bills shouldn't draft a QB in round 1 because none are worthy and perhaps not even in round 2. Wait till Rd 3 and grab whoever is left. Draft a WR or LB in Rd 1&2 to shore up depth issues. We will struggle again but until Tom Brady is washed up we aren't going to be better than 2 nd place in AFC East.
