How bad was it really?
Watched the replay 20-30x. I can honestly say I can pull one of any of the hundreds of NHL highlight reels out there and have that hit rank in the bottom/least 3 for "brutalness". Terrible that the opponent was injured, but a glancing hit ishardly worth all that attention.
Times have changed
Funny how a few years back a similar hit made Brian Campbell a star in the NHL...I guess skating with your head down is no longer a bad thing!
They were right
They were right about firing the GM and the Coach. The only reason Scott is here is Darcy has an entire team of powder puffs. We will continue to be the place not to be as long as we continue with the same GM and Coach
Jones and Milbury
Never seen a bigger pair of clowns. Jones is still upset about his knee and Milbury was perhaps the worst GM in the history of pro sports and a hypocrite. This, coupled with Costas' attack on the Redskins makes me want to turn NBC off permanently.
Everything said here is true. Pegula is so out of touch with what is happening with this team - he see's $$$$$. Fire Darcy! How can anyone have a coach who has an 8-42 record. Who in their right mind puts this kind of management on national TV. This city has been embarrassed and no the laughing stock of the NHL. Thank You Mr. Pegula for making "Hockey Heaven" a living hell.
Rivalry night on NBC
Isn't this the name of the whole Wednesday night series? Without John Scott on the team your goon Lucic runs Miller or Thorton goes after a younger guy, but thats ok its hockey. You can't have it both ways...I don't condone what John Scott did. It was a bush league hit. But without Scott it goes the other way!!!
Tit for tat.
No different than the Lucic hit on Miller. Were even now.
this team is a joke
1. ted black is a used car salesman, not an nhl president.
2. darcy is a bum. everything has been said.
3. terry pegula. absent owner who talks once a year and talks a good game with no results.
4. why is stafford, ennis, porter, weber, myers, kaleta, and scott on this team?
5. rolston the worst coach in sabres history coaching the worst team in sabres history.
looks worse cause he pushed arm out, gees the guys 7 feet on skates wouldnt be allowed to hit anyone in this league
i have a great idea. suspend scott for the rest of the year but please take kaleta, stafford, ennis, mccormick, rolston and regier with him.
It is said that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insanity what is the word to use for hiring the same man year after year to mold a winning hockey team and each year molds a progressively poorer team?
What makes anyone believe that someone who has never built a championship team will build one from the rubble that we now have in our city?
John Scott Hit vs. Milan Lucic Hit
What was Milbury's reaction (comments) when Lucic ran a defenseless Ryan Miller, did he call it Bush League, Goon Hockey, an embarassment to the Boston Bruins. No Lucic is sitting with Piere Mcguire after the game talking about cheap hits. NBC Sports is a embarrasment, hyprocrites, get Milbury out of the booth. He was a do nothing coach now he is a GOON anaylst.
I'm fine with it
Revenge for that idiot that hit Miller. Too bad it wasn't Lucic.
Are you kidding me a hit to the head, say what. Oh I forgot its the No Hit League. Whine baggers, that's why you are sitting there. It will be upper body injury, more to the chest. Please Milbury.
I'm sick of this league
First, I agree with pretty much everything Jones and Milbury say in this piece. Rolston IS in way over his head. He has no business coaching this team. Scott's hit was dirty, and it was a desparate move by a frustrated team. But I am sick and tired of the double standard in the NHL. Where was this outrage when Lucic took Ryan Miller's head off? Where was this outrage when Chara tried to kill Max Pacioretty? If you're going to call out plays like this, call 'em all out! Don't sit there and say that John Scott doesn't belong in the league, but Lucic and Chara do just because they score a few more goals. John Scott is on the Sabres roster SPECIFICALLY because, without him, payers like Lucic and Chara take liberties. Yeah, Scott's hit was a cheap shot and he should get what's coming to him in the way of suspensions and fines. But stop the BS about how he has no place in the league. Until you remove all the other cheap shot artists, the Sabres have every right to have a goon on their roster to even the field.
this is the worst, in 40 years of following the sabres, never been less impressed by my home team.
cheap shot by a player that doesn't belong in the nhl. on a team with only one win. and has scored very few goal why is he even dressed for the game. get this goon off the team and out of the league. if the sabres are "rebuilding" than fill that rooster spot with someone who might actually become a good player or a guy that our prospects can learn from. this guy adds nothing.
Huge Overeaction by NBCSN!!
They're acting like this was Marty Mcsorley swinging his stick and hitting Donald Brashear in the head.
Waste of time
Scott should get 10 games. The Sabres pathetic attempt to get tough has back fired. A tough team does not equate to one gorilla--it is all about a culture that the whole club takes on and means much more than fighting/dirty play. He is only on this team due to the uproar over the Miller incident. Tough teams have tough players-accent on the word player. Hamiltons commment last night about teams being "afraid" was ridiculous. One goon does not make a team tough, it makes them look stupid and desperate.
If You Spend a Dime on This Organization......
You are a complete moron.
They call out Scott
Take a look at the cheap shot hits from d men like MCQuaid, Boychuck how but the hits from beind every year from Chara.. not to mention their team thinks its so tough but all their tough guys wont step up to Scott, Chara has said multiple times that he wont fight him but when he is on the Bench his mouth runs like he is going to back it up
Uhhhh.....Open ice hit, head down for a sec, two players moving towards each other. Did not bring an elbow or anything...Bean lovers
bye bye scott
Disgusting hit. Should be gone for this. Sorry. I liked scott last year, this year, get rid of him
Scott belongs in the league
If John Scott was not on the Sabres team, every game (especially Boston and Ottawa) they would be physically beat up and chased off the ice. Moreover, Miller would not have been hit and concussed by Lucic if John Scott was on the team that game period.
Rest in Peace: The open ice body check. The NHL is now the No Hit League. Get rid of boarding, elbows, ect. But its a sad day when open ice checks on guys not smart enough to keep their head up are banned.
if they said it was to the head, I guess it was
it didn't look quite like it to me... but the guy got hurt so I guess it doesn't matter. And since when are the Bruins the cleanest team in the league. Wow, we've managed to give the Bruins the moral high ground.... how does that happen?
Also- shut it Milbury. Embarassment- bah.
Get some guy with guts on the morning show to ask real questions to Rolston and Black on this pathetic hockey team when they come on. Howard is a soft patsie when he does interviews. You get nothing out of it. Jeremy is no help being a complete shill. What a Joke! Good choices for doing interviews: Jerry Sullivan or Mike Harrington.
The announcers said it best the Sabres are a joke. This is the worst sports team period. They may not even get 40 points this season. Fire everyone and start over. The Bills finally figured that one out, now the Sabres need to emulate what the Bills are doing.
What about Lucic on Miller??? Remember that???
Don't like cheap shots, but things just evened out. Milbury is a doosh.
Milbury's short biased memory
Three years ago in the playoffs Boychuck chops the back of Vanek's leg, injures Vanek, and gets away with it. Buffalo lost their best offensive player and eventually the series. Two years ago Lucic injures Miller and basically gets away with that. Shawn Thornton beats up Weber, Regier, and McCormick. Why? Because he could. Well last year, in Boston, Thornton thought he'd send another message by starting a fight and beating up the Sabres toughest player. Scott beat the daylights out of Thornton. After about 10 seconds Thornton was on the ice with a concussion and a broken nose. Many of the vicious cheap shots from the Bruins stopped after that. I thought that fight was the highlight of the year for the Sabres. The big bad wolf got knocked out and the rest of the Bruins minded their manners. The Bruins fans balled like a bunch of newborn babies! Too bad! Milbury gives the Bruins credit for not retaliating! They would have retaliated two years ago, but not this year because they were all AFRAID to retaliate! Where was Milbury and his big stupid mouth when Vanek and Miller were seriously injured?
Milbury is the goon
Didn't Mike Milbury beat up a parent at one of his kids hockey games last year? He has lost his right to judge John Scott.
John Scott is a good...yea so what?....The postgame show made me laugh...They bring up that Kessel and Scott had an altercation in preseason etc, but they dont bring up the fact that Kessel actually swung his stick multiple times at someone, or that factthat they interview Lucic on a "dirty hit"....yea cuz his hit on Miller was not on accident, and Miller suffered a concussion from it..
The world according to Milbury
It's O.K. to cheap shot and injure skilled players as long as the players doing it are skilled players in Bruins uniforms.
Mike Milbury is a dou che. When the hit happened on Miller last year, which IMO was worse, he ragged on the Sabres for not sticking up for their goaltender. Tonight he praises the Bruins for not sticking up for their guy. The hit was dirty, but it seems to happen quite often. Mike Milbury is the one who should be fired - no one likes him.
Just because it's John Scott?
I see his shoulder hit his chest, but I'm missing the head contact? His head snaps back because of the contact, but it was never a hit to the head?
Milbury, the Guy who beat a fan with a Shoe
This is what happens when an owner, Terry Pegula, has reduced the Sabres to be a joke in the NHL-- a hypocrite like Mike Milbury belittles the Sabres. In case some of you do not know, when Milbury was a player, he once climbed into the stands in Madison Square Garden to beat a fan with his own shoe. So Milbury, a super-goon goes after the entire team, and by association, our city and fans, for a "dirty play." Scott's hit was dirty, but if the Sabres were a respected team in the NHL, Milbury would never have gone on his rant because we all know respected teams get the benefit of the doubt and can do no wrong. However the opposite is true when your team is a laughing stock Pegula-- hypocrite's like Milbury take it to you, the team, the city, and the fans. Pegula, wake-up and fire Regier and his entire bozo crew.
Cheap hit. Yes. Five years ago that would have been Eriksson's fault for "admiring his pass". What was Lucic's hit on Miller a few years ago? It was cheap, but ok with Milbury. Mike Milbury is a hypocrite and should not be on a national broadcast team. Then he gives Boston props for their "response" and it will make them stronger as a team. Since when has he been for peace and harmony on the ice? He was a dirty player himself. He once went into the stands and beat on a fan (December 23, 1979). He also destroyed a storied franchise as their GM (New York Islanders). He has the nerve to call for the firing of a coach and player? He is a bigger joke than John Scott.
Please take all the Sabre games away from NBCSN so I do not have to listen to Mike Milbury anymore. I think Hockey Night in Canada finally wised up. I haven't seen him there this year.
Wow.....Imagine that...a former Bruin crying over a hit on a current bruin... Lots of h8ing on B-lo....Oh yea! that was a good hit and not to the head.
Stop Whining About Scot
Erickson should have had his head up. If that hit is a problem then Lucic should have received at least 10 games for his hit on Miller. If Lucic would have received 10 games this may not have happened. Its a garbage league with too many playings favorites/homers (Millbury (ex-Bruin) pro-bruins, Campbell/Shanahan with biased agendas). they need to can the instigator rule and 3rd man in rules. This is the best way to stop liberty taking. I have been a fan since 1971 and the NHL has de-evolved into cupcake league and no longer a man's game, losing its physical identity, losing its dimensional diversity in aspects of play, no longer has player personalities or an excitement element. Its reached the point where 19 out of every 20 games are truly uneventful and boring. The players used to leave everything they had, their heart, soul, blood and tears on the ice virtually every night. Today your lucky to find a a couple players doing that on a nightly basis. The game has become sham and the league and the players have taken to scamming the fans out of entertainment value.
John Scott Hit
Same type of hit as on Chris Drury.
no Mike, you know whats an embarrassment? An embarrassment is the fact the NHL refuses to penalize its players fairly and the result is this. Start suspending your stars that do whatever they want because they know they wont get in trouble and this problem goes away. Go John Scott! Go Roslton! (did anyone notice that since John Scott has been on the sabres that Lucic and Marchand and Chara and Boychuck stopped punching people in the face after every whistle?)...........hmmm
^^^^^everything about this team
Would love to hear his comments after the Lucic hit on Miller, guess no one takes into consideration the fact that Scott has not had any disciplinary record before and the fact he towers over Eriksson so he will always be close to hitting people's head!
Rolston is clueless.
THAT was his answer to what happened TWO seasons ago??? Scott is a complete waste product of a player and he clearly should be suspended for that hit. What is sad is the look on the moron that "coaches" the Sabres. It was a look of a deer in the headlights not of someone who was confident in his abilities. This clod is "teaching" the young Sabres? What is he teaching them, confusion and how lack of talent can still survive in the NHL? No, it cannot. Zadarov's lame goal notwithstanding, the Sabres are not a young team learning to play in the NHL; they are a young talentless team learning how to lose nightly in the NHL. Tallinder is slow. Pysyk is a pylon. Foligno is the only thing close to a bright spot on forward. Miller is mentally fatigued. This team as 590 the Fan put it this morning "it's ok to lose and get the top pick if you need to, but they are a laughingstock in the NHL and the owner needs to say something and do it now." Pathetic.
re: JohnScott on the team
Who did Thornton jump last night? Or McQuaid (prior to the bad hit)? Or Lucic? No one? Really? How about that.
The only reason Scott is on the Sabres is the Lucic hit on Miller and the team had, and other than Scott now, nobody able to confront him. I still wish we had Kassian.
Not defending Scott but......
I don't feel that what Scott did was right or in the spirit of good hockey, it was a cheap shot on a defenseless player. However, I harken back to the M. Lucic hit of Miller in November 2011 that took Miller out. Lucic deserved more than 2 minutes and now Scott deserves to be suspended indefinitely. Rolston and his staff also need to be released and Regier needs to go as well. This is a talented team playing bad hockey and the sooner this gets changed the better. I have no problem letting the young guns work into their roles but they need structure, discipline and sound guidance, all lacking at present. It's a shame that Buffalo Hockey has been reduced to this level of mediocrity. We deserve better and the players deserve better. Make the changes now before it's too late.
ITS NOT A HEADSHOT!
ITS NOT A HEADSHOT!
Remember Lucic, I have no pity for the Bruins here. Any other team maybe. How many games did Lucic get for hit on Miller, thats whats Scott should get.
If my memory serves me correctly, Milbury was a "bruiser" in the old days wasn't he? Now he just goes after high school kids (yeah he should be in jail for bullying and threatening) and NBC gives this IDIOT a pulpit?
How exactly does this nitwit not realize that the fans are fed up with the nonsense of Darcy Regier. That Ron Rolston is clueless? The Buffalo Sabres are an embarrassment of an organization to say nothing of the team playing on the ice. Sad.
How many teams have run us since we have had JS on the team....I think we should make him Captain....is Milbury anyone who should judge the Sabres
Keep Scott dump Reiger and Ralston
Milbury & Jones 2 of the cleanest players in the game have alot of room to talk.
no one made a big deal when Lucic bowled over Miller in 2011.
NBCSN SHOULD BAN WALMART FROM "NHL" NATIONAL TELECASTS!!
FINALLY NBCSN BRINGS TO LIGHT NATIONALLY WALMART'S WELL KNOWN AMATEUR REPUTATION WITHIN NHL!!
NBCSN perfectly described WALMART'S Well earned LoOSER, AMATEUR Identity FORGED LIKE AN EXPERT by DARCY REGEIR, ENGINEERED BY "LYIN LARRY QUINN", COMPLETELY supported by "B$" TOM GOLISANO, and PERPETUATED by TERRY "BIG FAN" PEGULA! What keeps this LOoSER TRAIN RUNNING?; WALMART'S BRAINLESS EUPHORIC TICKET BUYERS. NBCSN verifies the WALMART ACT has become SICKENING TO WATCH! The NHL is tired of it and WALMART should be banned from ALL FUTURE NATIONAL TELECASTS REPRESENTING THE "NHL" BRAND! Now you may ELITE ME, EXTEND ME, "HIT ME FROM BEHIND", but please don't block my post. THANK YOU SABERS.
It's not that bad!
I don't know if enforcers are necessary anymore, and I think they should look at taking fighting out of the game for player safety (concussions). But they acted like he shot Eriksson! It was not that bad, he wasn't targeting the head, and it wasn't that late. Maybe a 2 minute interference call. Kessle can swing his stick like an axe and nobody says a word, but when it's not an elite player the talking heads spew like their on caffeine overdrive.
I guess that's the spectacle the announcers need to make of the sport if your the 4th pro sports league in the US. Maybe 5th, hows MLS doing?
He'll probably get 10 games while Lucic got nothing for his hit on Miller, that's how messed up the NHL player safety system is.
Milbury is a crybaby
Oh my GOD!!! Does ANYONE see the irony here? Never once is Lucic's hit on miller brought up. When an incident like that ruins Miller's season, you go out and get John Scott. I only wish Scott had concussed Lucic and Milbury.
NBC sucks another one
Wow last night watching NBC reaction I wanted to destroy my TV. These guys acted like Scott had shot someone. Mike Milbury is a disgrace, maybe go hit a nother kid you scum. Keep your head up in the neutral zone, the choo choo is coming.
Don't See It
I don't know, Scott's a big guy, in order to make a hit he has to drop his body down. Doesn't look like a head shot either. A big hit ya, but not a dirty one. Shut up NBC announcers. They never have anything positive to say about Buffalo in any season.
All shook up
Spare me the TV commentary - poor Bruin player victimized by ruthless Scott. I fail to see the difference in intent between that hit and the one's on Miller, Connolly, and Lafontaine over the years. Their concussions\injuries were not caused by accidents. You want to clean up the game then fine - ban fighting, high sticking, cross checking, boarding, and tripping. Oh wait, they have that sport already ..... figure skating. Hockey is a collision sport.
The team is horrible and not team tough. Scott can't play the game and is a major liability whenever on the ice. Draft players with Grit and who can play so you don't require the enforcer. I have always been a Darcy fan but this team is a train wreck. Veterans are playing like they want out of this mess. Please Terry, make a G.M change immediately! I don't have a name but they must have league credibility and experience. Bring in a bunch of vets to finish the year as it is already done and probably for many more. You don't want to ruin a bunch of really good young prospects that really are our only hope going forward. Let them grow in Rochester. Take a page out of the Detroit organization. Grand Rapids fuels Detroit!! I have been a sabre fan for day one and this my friends is the low point and embarrassing at that.
Milbury finally correct, Rolston and Scott wrong
I can't stand Milbury. He is a homer, hates the Sabres, etc.
BUT, he is 100% correct in this case.
Scott is a goon, and the Sabres should cut him as soon as his suspension is served, which should be at least 5 games.
Rolston needs to learn the unwritten rules of hockey. Lindy was no angel, but he could teach this coach a thing or two about who to play and when to play them.
Get #32 off the ice, and someone tell him the legendary #32 in Sabres history was never a dirty player that elbowed guys (non-fighters) in the head.
Can it get any worse for this team?
I really don't like Mike Milbury
Yes I thought it was a dirty hit. He caught Eriksson looking up ice and not expecting it at all. And he did catch him in the head after the puck left, so if he gets a suspension I wouldn't argue with that. What I didn't like was Milbury's comments on Scott. First of all, to the point that he "hasn't scored a point all year", 10 of the 24 skaters that have played for the Sabres this year don't have a point. It's been a crappy year, not much scoring to speak of. And Milbury said he couldn't skate or pass, yet he got himself in position for a scoring chance last night in front of the net but the pass to him was off. And that he "looks for trouble on every shift" because he "can't do much of anything else", obviously he's not going to be our top scorer but Milbury makes it sound like he's some random guy off the street with no skill whatsoever that tries to run every guy on the ice. Then they make it sound like it's the organization's fault, and Rolston's fault (and even that Rolston should be fired!!!). I'm sure Rolston didn't tell him to go out there and wreck a good Bruins player. He decided to dress Scott last night so he's going to play him for a couple shifts, even if he's probably not going to get "the tying goal" when he's out there. So should every team that has an enforcer be "embarrassed" that they have a player like that on their roster? Should a player be kicked out of the league for a hit like that, because there are a bunch of guys that would be out right now for hits that were just as bad or maybe worse (shoving a guy into the endboards) just in the past week or two. Oddly enough, when Milbury himself was playing (for Boston) he seemed to have a knack for racking up penalty minutes while putting up only average scoring numbers (for defensemen) at best. He just a biased man who decided to take out his dislike for enforcers on the convenient target of John Scott. (And, as a person living in the Buffalo area, I think it's funny that I haven't heard the rumor that Scott is "in over his head").
Iam a Sabres fan and I can't stand John Scott. Milbury is no angel given his track record when he was a player but I agree he needs to go. Buffalo has enough problems.
Cry me a river
Milbury should refrain from commenting on cheap shots and goon tactic's: that's the heritage of the Boston Bruins, as he well knows. Compare the strides taken of Scott's hit and the one against Miller and try to cry foul. Scott's "crime" is that he towers in height over almost everyone and caught Eriksson unawares. The Sabre's are rebuilding from a skilled roster because they were beaten into submission year after year by the those very same goon tactic's: nobody came to their defense then.
sentence John Scott to one week of listening to "hockey hotline"..... no thats cruel and unusual punishment.
Scott says he's not a goon
Yes, he's not a goon. He is an idiot. We don't need his antics. Just sitting here thinking and remembering the Sabres of the seventies where every player was capable of handling themselves in the fisticuffs and didn't need the idiocy. Build a team like that where every member on the team can handle themselves scoring, hitting, and fighting when needed. And to add: FIRE REGEIR AND ROLSTON!!! This team is a Joke.
Milbury CLUELESS !!!!!
Milbury has NO business commenting on NHL games!!! Who is he to say Scott should not be in the league ??? I guess it is O.K. for Lucic and Chara to be GOONS but if someone does something to the bruins it's not ok ??? Fire Mulberry!!!!
What ever happened to tough guys?
Hockey shouldn't get soft like Football is. Hockey players hit. He'll be suspended and then come back. We want NHL hockey, not European figure skating. Remember The Hammer, Dave Schultz, Razor Ray, and all those hard-nosed players. IF you can't take a hit that was not cheap, go play in Europe. Did Lucic get that gash on his face from playing chess? Hockey was designed as a contact sport.
No big deal
The Sabres haven't gotten any respect from the national broadcast team, especially the Boston-drooling-over Mulbury, for years. Their record doesn't exactly help either. Scott was making a check but he may have hit the guy a little high-since he is 6-7 his arms/shoulder are a bit above most people's. I don't think it was late, but that may be debatable. He will probably get a few games.I think Scott has quite a bit of value as an enforcer, in contrast to what some guys on tv say. He is like a nuclear deterrent who opposing players know is there just in case-not many enforcers on other teams will even drop gloves with him, let alone fight him (as opposed to dropping the gloves and attempting the bear hug, etc. as McQuaid did). He also isn't a defensive liability like a lot of players on the Sabres. I especially like the comment about him having no goals-exactly how many goals do the most of the Sabres have this year? If that is the barometer, then half the team would "not belong in this league."
Scott is here to protect our team. Jealous Announcers.
give up John Scott and teams will pretty much whip our little guys around.
Goon, pure and simple.
He has no business ever, and I mean ever putting on a Sabres uniform again...No place in the game for players like John Scott and if the Sabres suit him up again, then everyone involved in that decision should be immediately fired!
Not the cleanest hit, but come on... where were these guys and their comments when Lucic ran over Miller? And now they fawn all over him?? Go yank another 12 year old kid around, Milbury.
Your photo doesn't show the actual blow to the head...
Olympic Goaltender got hit by Lucic... were these two guys going crazy then?
Milbury and Jones don't like the Sabres. Theyre even admitting the reasons why they don't like Buffalo. These guys don't really want Buffalo in the League, their comments about the franchise sum up how they really feel.
Milbury is embarrassing
Mike Milbury has no right to call not only John Scott a meathead but Ron Rolston as well. I lost ALL respect for Milbury during this post game show due to his lack of professionalism and how much of a homer he is to the Bruins. Lucic makes that hit and this post game show would have been praising him for his physical play. Ridiculous.
Have we forgot the Dave Shultz's of the past?
ericcson did not have his head up across the middle of the after passing the puck.
Scott was guilty of bad hit but why didn't Lucic get the same treatment? too much of a double standard in hockey- when the league sticks to it's rules then maybe hockey will be fun to watch again
Geez, what about Lucic's hit on Miller? Or his girlfriend for that matter...
is nothing but a big hypocrite. He was one of the biggest goons in the league when he played. I'd love to hear this Boston homer say something negative about Lucic for what he did to Ryan Miller. Pigs may fly first.
What a joke!
If it wasn't for being a goon himself, Milbury wouldn't have been in the NHL! Why wasn't he taking the high road back then?
Has it been pulled off the table??? Where are the beefs?
Let's Talk Milan....
I would have no mercy on Scott, as I would have no mercy on Kaleta. I agree with the NBC Sports commentators that the team should suffer some type of disciplinary action as well. Rolston and Regier should have to answer for the fact that the only thing this team is notable for thus far this season is being 'goonish.' But they also should have asked Lucic how he thought Scott's hit compared to his run of Ryan Miller a couple years back. Of all the people to interview after an incident like the Scott hit. - JC
Milbury and Jones - Losers....
Scott's hit wasn't even a penalty 3 years ago. I know the game has changed but Scott is just a victim of being too tall. He was squared up with elbows tucked. Never has been a dirty player. I feel bad for him. No one likes to see a player get injured but this is a nasty physical game and things happen. Hockey media local and national is embarrassing. It has completely turned me off from being a hockey fan as it pushes it's agenda to change the game from when it was great. Especially these two clowns on NBCSN. They have zero credibility to me. Keep your head up John.
talk about cheap shots
what about the cheap shot lucic put on ryan miller. what about that mike milbury.
those nbc announcers should be fired
what if was thomes vanck or Steve ott that hit him, it would be a whole different story hits happen and I am sure he didn't want to injurer the Boston player. those NBC guys should be fired, they are making fun of the sabers and the league. Gettinghit is a risk you take when playing the sport. when Ryan miller got hurt last season then came back and got hit there was not this much fuss this whole thing is overrated
Milbury is a good announcer. He doesn't belong there. He says things that are stupid all the time. These announcers are way to one sided, UNPROFESSIONAL! The check was not that bad and I don't think that Scott should be suspended at all! The hit was less than a second after he released the puck but these unprofessional announcers show it in super slow motion and insist that it's really late. Just a couple years ago you would have said the player has to keep his head up and be careful in open ice. I don't believe that Scott intended to hit the head. Eriksson's head was down after he let go of the puck. No Suspension! Only a wanring.
Does Scott belong on the team? A number of players don't belong on this team but they are still here. Against a team like Boston that is know for cheap shots and I think trying to hit players to get them out of the game you need someone to be the enforcer on your team. If the refs did their jobs and call the rules the way they are supposed to it would be a better game.
Stop the Whining...
Erickson should have had his head up. This would have never happened if Lucic was given 10 games for his hit on Miller (Scott probably wouldn't be here today) or if the instigator rule and 3rd man in rules were dumped. Millbury spewing that nonsense...he is a Boston homer. Campbell and HSanahan have it in for the Sabres (Shanahan has it in for the Sabres as they took Pierre Turgeon ahead and cost him money...if I were Pegula I would make it an issue with Bettman to get him out of there). Back when the game was a game for men, there was fear of retribution and players did a pretty good job policing back before these rules were enacted. The league has de-evolved over the last couple/few decades taking the physicality, diverse play, personalities and excitement out of the game. Players would pour there blood, sweat, and tears with honest efforts in most games, Today the lack of effort is evident nightly. Each game you can usually count on all but a couple/few players on each roster to play in a self preservation (staying healthy for the next contract), uninspiring/lack of full effort mode. The product is the evidence, 19 out of every 20 games are boring, uninspiring, efforts with low scoring with 80% of the goals scored by freak incidents (accidental deflections, misplays). They say taking the dangerous hitting out would/will open it up for skill players and exciting plays, well were into the experiment several years now and the game excitement has gotten only worse....fans are catching on that they are still getting stinker games on a nightly after shelling out ($100 game). Right now the NHL has a garbage product trying to make midget fast cars appealing, when everyone likes to see at least some of the monster trucks mixed in. The league must realize its like driving on the interstate, the small fast cars have certain advantages as do the semi trucks. When the trucks decide to change lanes the little ones need to pay attention and make room or risk ending up on the short of the deal.
I am not even a Sabres fan
But wow Mike Milbury needs to shut up. You know what is an embarrassment to the NHL Mike? Climbing into the stands and attacking fans. Guess who did that mike? You did. You know what else was embarrassing to the NHL? How you ran the Islanders. You are the last person who should say anything about embarrassing the NHL Mike Milbury. Get off your soap box and shut your mouth.
where are all the comments?
Do your job!
Quit Crying Milbury
Did you give 2 cares when that CEMENTHead Lucic steamrolled Miller? No of course not because your a former Boston Bruin and why care about the health and wellness of a Buffalo Sabre. Did you care when Chara slammed Pacioretty into the end of the glass nearly breaking his neck in 2? No didnt think so on that one either...What an idiot.
I only wished John Scott wouldve done that to Lucic instead!
Milbury makes me want to puke
I wonder if Milbury was so outspoken when the goon Lucic took out Miller. The Bruins are apparently saints to show so much restraint. It is about time the Sabres have someone to take care of business. I for one was sick of watching them get walked allover the last couple of years. Perhaps the hit was to the head because Scott is 6ft8. The hit was late but the number of times the Sabres have had their player hit late is huge (I don't remember Milbury getting upset when those hits happened).
ok cheap shot. but..
ok if you get rid of scott then boston has to do the same with lucic.
only difference is scott is bigger and not in boston....
kiss my derriere Boston Bruins!!!!!!!!!!
Scott keep your head up the Sabres need you otherwise teams like those clowns in Boston will push you around every game!
does buffalo have the only goon in the league
mike can ya please sign my shoe
youtube milbury shoe incident then watch this clip
A lot of opinions but:
No matter what you think, this team was put together by the what's he done wrong guy, a GM so powerful he cannot be replaced. Hold on to your hats folks this may even get worse. Stay away from FNC until a clear sign of change is made.
NBC's hockey coverage sucks to begin with. You have to sit there during the game and listen to an announcer repeat the same thing over and over a dozen times. Then he has to show you the same play a half a dozen times and go on repeating the same thing he's been dragging on about for the last 10 minutes of play. There are no one set of rules in the NHL.Bettman has rules for certain players and teams and then he has rules for the rest.I don't watch the NHL for figure skating.Mayabe we forget the days of King Kong Korab,Jim Schoenfeld, and Larry Playfair.Of course that's when men played hockey.
to all those people who posted some sense on this page and didn't overreact like the "professional analysts". The NHL wants to clean up the league, how about they start with the national broadcast booth.
But it's ok for Lucic?
Lucic took out our best player last year and that was ok because he can handle the puck??? I don't think Scott is worth anything more than a bag of pucks but you have to have a guy on your team who take down bullies when they go after your team. Scott showed Boston if you go after our guy..I'll go after yours!
Take the instigator penalty away and let the players police themselves and hits like that will go away!
It's Milbury who should be cut loose
Where was Milbury's "incredulity" when Lucic "cheap shotted" Miller. If Milbury wants to know why Scott is in the lineup against the Bruins...just look at Lucic on Miller.
Biased beyond Belief
Lucic on Miller, Charra on everybody. The problem is we have seen way worse. It is the leagues decision to pick and choose penalties for similar plays that causes a much worse problem. Be consistent and suspend Lucic as easy as you doo the Scott's, Kalleta's and Cooke's and we probably wouldn't even have Scott on our team.
I am glad he is on our team.
