Come April 26th, we might see something that hasn’t happened in the NFL Draft since 1999. That year, five quarterbacks were selected in the first round. The first three picks as well as the 11th and 12th overall picks were all signal callers. The 2018 class of quarterbacks has a good chance to pull up alongside that 1999 draft, although at this point it wouldn’t appear that five quarterbacks will come off the board before the 13th pick, but you never know.

Four quarterbacks could hear their name called out in the first six spots with Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen all being taken in whatever order. You could also see Louisville’s Lamar Jackson go in the first round, and that would leave Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State as the only other Round 1 possibility.

If you were wondering, the record for most quarterbacks taken in the first round is six in the 1983 NFL Draft, which included Hall of Famers Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and John Elway.

We focused on the quarterback prospects during an interview with NFL Network’s Mike Mayock on our show Monday morning. Mayock, who recently got an up close look at some of the seniors during the Senior Bowl in Alabama, called this years group of quarterbacks intriguing.

"They all have some holes, most of them are underclassmen but there's also a lot of talent in this class," Mayock said. "I also think there's some depth In the class that we usually don't see, meaning some quarterbacks like a Luke Falk or a Mike White, guys that don't have the same buzz as the first round guys but might go in the second, third or fourth round that are kind of interesting also.”

Mayock covered a number of topics during the conversation, including which quarterback is the most pro-ready right now and which one has the biggest upside. In the event the Bills can’t get to a quarterback in the first round, we also asked Mayock to talk about some Day 2 or Day 3 choices at that position.
