Sabres announce the return of the Prospects Challenge

Pittsburgh joins the tournament as the fourth participant

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Thursday the return of the annual Prospects Challenge at HarborCenter. This will be the third consecutive season the Sabres have hosted the tournament.

Along with the Sabres, the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils will return as participants for the third time. Last year, the Boston Bruins prospects came away as the tournament winners after beating the Devils in their opening game followed by a win over the Sabres in the tournament finale.

This year, a fourth team will be added to the fray with the Pittsburgh Penguins' prospects competing in the round-robin challenge.

The tournament starts on Friday, September 8 with the first round of games, and will conclude on Monday, September 11. Each team will play three games during the tournament with an off day on Sunday, September 10.

Tickets for the games are $10 and will go on sale on August 7 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available at the Sabres Box Office at the KeyBank Center, online at Sabres.com, or by calling 1-(888)-223-6000.

Saturday, September 9:

  • New Jersey vs. Pittsburgh - 3:30 p.m.
  • Buffalo vs. Boston - 7 p.m.

Sunday, September 10:

  • NO GAMES

Monday, September 11:

  • Boston vs. New Jersey - 12 p.m.
  • Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh - 7 p.m.


The rosters for the tournament will be released at a later date.
