Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) - The two last place teams in the Eastern Conference come together tonight in Buffalo. The Sabres are dead last in the Conference with just 14 points. Carolina brings up the rear in the Metropolitan Division with 18 points.

The Sabres only managed 20 shots in Detroit on Friday night and lost 3-1. The Red Wings used their speed to get in many times on Robin Lehner. Chad Johnson said to beat the Hurricanes, that has to change, “We’re going to have to be aware of the speed and match the speed and get good defensive positioning.

“At the end of the day, you have to all work together, it’s not all on the defensemen to defend, it starts with the forwards, the defense and myself communicating, so it takes all six players to have a good defensive game to really counter their speed.”

Johnson is 1-3-2 this season with a 3.55 goals against and .885 save percentage.

Phil Housley was very upset after the Red Wings game and he didn’t feel any better about it this morning, “You look at last night’s game, it didn’t sit well with me and I don’t think it sat well with them, so hopefully we can come out and have a strong first period and respond in the right way.”

Evan Rodrigues was officially sent to Rochester right before the Amerks game began Friday night. It was the speedy forward’s first game this season after breaking his hand. Housley said he wanted him to get used to playing again down there, “It’s a little bit of rehab, he’s been off so long, we’re trying to get him back into some practices and some realistic situations because it’s going to take time. When you miss that much time, you have to find your timing, so that’s one of the reasons we put him down there.”

The Canes have points in five out of six games with the only regulation loss coming Thursday in Long Island.

Carolina has nine goals in its last two games, but they gave up seven.

Former Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling gets the call in net. He’s given up just one goal in three of his last five starts, but he allowed nine in the other two.

Darling is 5-4-4 with a 2.57 goals against and .905 save percentage.

Two games ago, another former Blackhawk, Teuvo Teravainen had a hat trick. He’s tied for the scoring lead for Carolina with Jordan Staal.

Teravainen has six points in two games and eight points in four.

Staal has six assists in his last two games and eight points in four.

Derek Ryan has seven points in eight games.

The Sabres didn’t skate this morning, but did have a meeting with the coaching staff.

Join Brian Koziol at 6 p.m. for the pre-game as he’ll be joined by Phil Housley, Marco Scandella and Chad Johnson.
