CAPACCIO: 3 quick reactions to the Bills schedule

A few observations that stand out

Now that he Bills in NFL schedule has officially been released, here are three quick reactions:

1.  This schedule is a football coach's dream.

Coaches and players are creatures of habit. They love routine and want to do everything the exact same way, every week. That's exactly what this schedule offers, outside of only two weeks. Every single game is Sunday at 1 PM Eastern except for at the Chargers on November 19th at 4:05 PM and the Thursday night affair in New Jersey against the Jets. But even that Chargers game will be a 1 PM start in Los Angeles. That means there is only one week the entire season Sean McDermott's club has to change their routine of preparation.

2.  Bye, bye….bye

Another benefit for the Bills is they only have one opponent coming off extra rest playing them all season. The Raiders in week eight after playing week seven on Thursday night. The Bills have typically played several opponents coming off their bye week or a Thursday night. So this is a change. Of course, the Bills only have that advantage twice themselves. Coming off their bye week six at home to the Buccaneers and home to the Saints November 12th after playing at the Jets on Thursday Night in week nine.

3.  The Final Countdown will be rough

The last six weeks of the season will be pretty wild in a few ways. Both games against the Patriots and Dolphins in December with only one week in between the Miami contests and two weeks between the New England games.  Three straight home games in December, which should be considered an advantage, but then two on the road to finish against divisional opponents is tough. The combined opponents in the final six weeks? 68-28! The Patriots and Dolphins twice, Chiefs, and Colts.  That’s the defending Super Bowl champions twice, three more games against playoff teams, and an 8-8 Colts squad with a (presumably) healthy Andrew Luck.  Good luck. Either that stretch is going to mean a whole heck of a lot because the earlier part of the schedule isn't as brutal and they will be in a playoff hunt, or they'll have already lost enough games to cringe even thinking about that final month and a half as it gets closer.
