NFL Draft Report

By Joe Buscaglia

OT Bobby Massie, Mississippi

Bobby Massie, #79
Ole Miss
6'6", 315 lbs., 22 years old
Lynchburg, VA

PROS
- Physically imposing right tackle that has a long reach.
- A very good run blocker. Drives through defenders and finishes the block to the ground every now and again.
- Displays good footwork in taking on the wide rush in pass blocking.
- When locked in to their pads, defenders have a hard time disengaging.

CONS
- Gets caught with his weight/momentum going forward, allowing defenders to pull an outside-to-in move and get to the ball carrier.
- Struggles to find a block out in space on screen/pull plays.
- A bit stiff. Gets pushed back against bull rushers for a few yards before re-anchoring.

Special Notes:
- Turns 23 in August.
- Junior that declared early.

Projection: 3rd to 4th round
- Massie is one of the few junior offensive tackles that declared and probably got what he deemed a quality grade when filing his paperwork. His stock drops a bit because he's more of a fit at right tackle, not quite athletic enough for the left side. He might be able to sub in on the blind side (for most teams) and be adequate. But the best fit for him is on the right.
