Longtime Hockey Night in Canada analyst Don Cherry checked in with Jim Rome from Los Angeles to talk hockey and the Stanley Cup Finals. Cherry doesn't expect the Devils to climb back from the 0-3 hole they currently sit in.
"If I was (Peter) DeBoerr, the New Jersey coach, I would say if we could squeeze one out tonight, you know they're not going to beat us three straight at home, and then we get them back on the road for Game six... but then I can hear (Daryl) Sutter saying, 'Do you want to go back to New Jersey?'. They want to carry that cup tomorrow in L.A. They are playing terrific."
Having just squeezed into the playoffs, Cherry says that the Kings do not look like a typical 8-seed in this playoffs.
"I was just saying to Ron MacLean, these guys remind me of the Bruins last year. Every shift is their last shift. They haven't had many injuries. It's about the way they play. They will not lose."
Red WIng great Nicklas Lidstrom recently retired and Rome grabbed Cherry's thoughts on whether or not he compares to legend Bobby Orr. Cherry didn't have the blue liners on the same level in history.
"Not even close and I'll tell you why, (Lidstrom) won the Norris Trophy last year and had 11goals. He had 40-something assists. He was minus-2 and had 20 minutes in penalties. When I coached Bobby Orr he had 46 goals, 89 assists, he was plus-128 and he had 100 minutes in penalties. (Lidstrom) was a good guy, he lasted a long time, but he doesn't even compare to Bobby Orr."
