SIMON: Sheppard Ready For Challenge

The Buffalo Bills focused on improving their defense during the off season, spending big money on free agent defensive linemen Mario Williams and Mark Anderson.

The team also used its first pick in the April draft to bolster the defense, selecting cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

But there’s a returning linebacker who will play an integral part in what needs to be a much improved unit.  Second year pro Kelvin Sheppard will be the man in the middle and has been entrusted with running that defense by Dave Wannstedt.

Sheppard has no plans to let the new Defensive Coordinator down. “With a guy like Dave Wannstedt, he’s putting it on the line” Sheppard told WGR. “Saying I could be the nucleus of a defense with Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and guys who have proven themselves on this level. Now its my turn to go on the field and do it in actual competition.”

You can listen to the entire interview with Sheppard and find out why fellow linebacker Nick Barnett could show up at Sheppard’s house any time of the night.
