Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- All 32 teams around the National Football League have until 9 pm to narrow down their rosters to 53 players. The first name gone from the Buffalo Bills roster could very well be the biggest that you'll see vacated from One Bills Drive.
A league source to WGR confirms that the Bills have released defensive tackle Dwan Edwards from the roster. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report Edwards' release.
After signing a four-year contract as an unrestricted free agent in 2010, the defensive tackle played two seasons as the Bills attempted to switch to a 3-4 defensive scheme. As the Bills switched back to a 4-3 defense for 2012, Edwards was fourth on the depth chart at his position.
With two years left on his deal, he was due to make a base salary of $3.6 million in 2012 and $3.65 million in 2013. Edwards did however make $375,000 in bonuses for being on the roster on the first day of the new league year.
The 31-year old had 109 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interception in 27 games played with Buffalo. He will be placed on waivers for teams to claim him from his original contract. If he is not claimed, he will become an unrestricted free agent.
