Local gas prices are at an average of $3.92 a gallon for unleaded, according to the AAA. That's fourteen cents higher than local drivers paid for the average gallon here a year ago.

Even as a $14 million emergency department upgrade is underway, Kenmore Mercy Hospital is seeking state approval for a $5.7 million expansion of its medical/surgical inpatient nursing unit. The projects would run at the same time, with a completion date of next summer.

Northern Star Restaurant Management, which owns fifteen Dunkin' Donuts sites in Erie, Niagara and Chautauqua Counties, is looking to expand further. Business First reports Northern Star Restaurant Management would like to open a total of 42 franchises within the next few years.

Business publication Fast Company has placed both Buffalo and Rochester on its "10 Underrated Hotbeds of American Innovation." Cited specifically was Liazon as one of many health care innovators in this area.
