The Bills kicked off the 2012 season in New Jersey against the Jets. Buffalo lost to New York 48-28. Fred Jackson left the game after taking a hard hit to his legs.
Neither team's offense started off too well with the two sides trading interceptions. After Darrelle Revis picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick the Jets marched down the field for a 61-yard scoring drive. Mark Sanchez threw a touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley to give New York the 7-0 lead.
The Jets capitalized on yet another Fitzpatrick interception for their next score in the second quarter. After the Bills QB threw another pick to New York's Kyle Wilson, Sanchez connected on a deep pass to Stephen Hill to make the Jets' lead 14-0. New York struck again after Buffalo went three and out on their next offensive possession. Kerley returned a Brian Moorman all the way for the score to make it 21-0 Jets.
Buffalo finally got on the board on their next offensive posession. With Jackson out hurt, CJ Spiller took the reigns at running back and hit a home run. He broke a 56 yard dash to the endzone to cut the Jets' lead to 21-7. New York tacked two more field goal to take a 27-7 lead before half time.
Buffalo started the third quarter with the ball but didn't make good use of it. Fitzpatrick threw a pick six to Antonio Cromartie to help the Jets take a 34-7 lead.
New York's offense kept humming in the second half. On their next possession Sanchez hit Hill for a 17-yard touchdown pass to bump the lead to 41-7.
The Bills came back with a decent drive on their next possession that featured another long run from Spiller. Scott Chandler capped it off with a 5-yard touchdown catch to cut the lead to 41-14. Buffalo added another touchdown to the scoreboard with a Donald Jones catch later in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 41-21.
The theme of too little, too late continued for the Bills on their next drive. Stevie Johnson recorded his first touchdown of the season to make the score 41-28 Jets late in the fourth. But New York officially put the game away on their next drive when Shonn Greene punched it in from 1 yard out, making the score 48-28.
