NHLPA, NHL exchange proposals

As the deadline approaches for the NHL and NHL Players' Association to come to an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the two sides exchanged proposals at meetins Wednesday morning in New York City.

NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr speaking with the media called the league "responsive" to its proposal, but said the players will not accept a reduction in salaries but could be prepared for a smaller cut of hockey-related revenue. ESPN's Pierre LeBrun tweeting, "NHL counter-proposal today was six years in length: offered to start players' share at 49 percent and end it at 47 percent at end of term"

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that the Players' Association's new proposal did not have many changes from the last one.

"There wasn't much movement at all," he told reporters shortly after Fehr spoke.

The league's counter to the NHLPA's offer  is asking the players give up between $250 and $300 million less than the league's enitial proposal, according to multiple reports.

The CBA expires on Sept. 15. Both sides expected to meet again on Thursday.
