Bills' Jackson & Spiller both practicing

Good news came in twos for the Buffalo Bills on Thursday.

Not only was Fred Jackson on the field for practice for the second straight day, but running back C.J. Spiller made a return on Thursday as well. For the latter, his participation was a bit up in the air to start the week.

It's yet to be determined whether one or both runners are limited for the session. Head coach Chan Gailey will speak with the media following practice, providing an update of how much each player participated.

Ahead of Thursday's session, Spiller spoke fairly cautiously.

"We'll see how it goes. The main thing we don't want to do is rush it," he said. "It's only Week Four, we've got 16 more and plus if we want to get in to the postseason. We'll do it day by day and see what Sunday holds."

In the case of Jackson, he said Wednesday that how he felt on Thursday morning (the day after his first time back on the practice field) would play a role in how ready he may be for the Bills' contests against New England on Sunday.

Jackson updated the media on his status on the fateful Thursday ahead of practice.

"I was a little sore this morning. A little sore, a little swollen," said the running back. "Got in the training room and they did what they could. We'll go out and see what today happens, see what happens, see how I feel on it. I haven't moved around on it yet. I don't know if it's gonna be any worse or if it's gonna be any better. But, it was a little more sore than expected, but not too much."

At the beginning of the week, Jackson called it a 70-to-75 percent chance he could play against the New England Patriots. When asked hypothetically if he would play if the knee were to be in a similar condition on Sunday as it is while he was talking on Thursday, the runner held out for the optimistic approach.

"In my mind I play. But like I said, it's not always just totally up to me. I feel like I can play right now."

Perhaps sounding a bit downtrodden following Wednesday's session, Jackson explained the reason for not sounding as enthusiastic as he had been on Monday.

"I'm more disappointed in the way that it feels today," he said. "I gotta get cleared by people. That's the goal. I still think I can play, I still wanna play. It's just gonna be about how much I can play and see what happens today."
