Add Thomas Vanek to the list of Buffalo Sabres taking their talents to Europe while the NHL lockout rolls on. Vanek will play in his native Austria for the Graz 99ers in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. He is expected to join the team on Thursday.
The league is not considered among the elite European Leagues but Vanek has always jumped at the chance to play for his home country in international competition and he grew up in Graz.
Graz plays teams based in Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
Christian Ehrhoff is playing in his home country of Germany and Tyler Ennis is playing in Switzerland.
