Right after Fitzpatrick threw that horrendously ridiculous looking ball that was picked off near the San Francisco goal line in the 3rd quarter, I asked Mike Schopp a question.  This being our tenth season working together, I asked how many games a year we've had like the one against the 49-ers. 

We estimated that maybe an average of 5 per season might be right.  This is not to be backed up with any kind of in depth statistical analysis.  This is not even going to be backed up by a shallow statistical analysis.  In fact, there will be no statistical analysis at all.  This is all about feel.

The feeling that you almost certainly could be doing something, anything, far more enjoyable with your time than watching the quarterback of the team you root for throw lame looking pass after lame looking pass and then try to convince yourself afterwards that they can still find a way to win something with the guy.

This isn't about you feeling sorry for us because we have to talk about the game when it ends.  They pay us and everything, so I'm cool.  It's about the collective.  All of us.  Imagine the good we could do applying ourselves at something during all the time during the past ten years, or more, that we've wasted watching quarterbacks who are not good enough do what Fitzpatrick did today.

Maybe our backyards would look awesome.  Maybe a fresh coat of paint in that spare room would really make your wife happy.  Some of you could have created your masterpiece.  Or maybe you could just get really good at making barbecue sauce.  Whatever.  You get the point.

What are we doing?  Don't answer.  I know what we're doing.  We love the Bills and it is fun to root for your team.  Except for when your team becomes some sort soul sucking alien from a science fiction movie and makes you wish you were raking, or painting, or masterpiece-ing.

Or making barbecue sauce.  Who do you want to yell about this week?  I'm sorry I didn't get to the blame Dave Wannstedt rest stop at the same time as you.  It sure gets more possible with every wide open receiver I see flashing across my screen that maybe he isn't so good at this any more.

The front four was handled again, generating no pressure on Alex Smith.  I did see Mario Williams lined up on the right side a few times and the results were, well, exactly the same as when he lined up on he left.  In other words, any guy from the past 12 non playoff seasons could have been in his spot and nothing would have been any different.

That's a good feeling isn't it?  Can't stop the run, can't get to the quarterback. The yards are piling up and what are we left to do?  Look at the schedule and hope they can beat some of the less daunting looking teams on their schedule.

Sure.  I'll get in the mood for that at some point.  But after 12 years of this garbage, forgive me for not being in a hurry. 

For yet another week, in another season, we've all been reminded that Bills can't really compete with the good teams in the NFL.  Their quarterback isn't good enough.  The millions invested in defensive ends isn't helping, and we're all going to be year older soon.
