Bills attempt to put bad losses behind them

PHOENIX (WGR 550)  -- To put it bluntly, the Buffalo Bills have been beaten down and embarrassed over the past six quarters of football. Few said it better than defensive tackle Kyle Williams on Monday.

"We stink right now," he said. "I don't know how else to call it. We've played two teams that are playoff teams that are Super Bowl contending teams. We've got a long, long way to go. We have to figure out a way to get better."

They feel it, the fans feel it and most around the league sees what's happening to the group. The lingering question is how the team will respond in what could be their biggest game of the season, another road contest against the 4-1 Arizona Cardinals.

After two dejecting losses that the Bills have suffered, morale of the team is certainly questioned. Speaking Monday morning on WGR Sports Radio 550, head coach Chan Gailey said he was concerned about the psyche of his team. He expounded on that later on Monday.

"You've got your head in the sand if you don't worry about confidence, morale, all of those terms that we all use," he said. "I addressed it with the team. And what I reminded them is that they've done it before, and to not lose confidence in themselves because I've seen them, we've all seen them do it before so I know it can be done."

In what could be the easiest road matchup of their next four games, the Bills are focusing on regaining all the positivity they had from their two-game win streak against Kansas City and Cleveland, and implementing it as they move forward in to the sixth week of the NFL season.

"I'm still optimistic about where we can go. There's a lot of games left," Kyle Williams remarked. "But, we have to get better and we have to get better in a hurry. I've said it before, being disappointed, being discouraged and hanging things up are two completely different things. We have a lot of games left. But like I said, we have to get a lot better, a lot more sound or we're not gonna win a lot of football games if we don't."

When things go awry, many times fans look to the quarterback as someone a certain amount of blame can be placed on. For Ryan Fitzpatrick, he realizes what's being said but says he just can't think about that as he tries to prepare for a game each week.

"I don't think I need to sit and put that on my shoulders every week and every play. I think if you do that, you start pressing that you're not going to be effective. I've got to go out there and just play and I guess that's the biggest thing for me. I don't think about that stuff when I'm out there. I don't think about I've got to make this play, or else. We've got to win this game, or else. For me it's just going out there and trying to execute the offense."

The Bills will start their practice preparations for the Cardinals on Wednesday of this week. They'll be taking their reps on the campus of Arizona State University.
