Kyle Williams doesn't practice Wednesday for Bills

Tempe, AZ (WGR 550)  -- As the Buffalo Bills approach what could be one of their most important contests of the 2012 NFL season, injuries have certainly piled up on them.

While the absences of a few players were to be expected in the first practice session of the week at Verde Dickey Dome on the campus of Arizona State University, one player's lack of participation caught a few by surprise.

Defensive tackle Kyle Williams, who has been one of the most consistent defenders this year for Buffalo, did not participate in the session. He spent the majority of the portion available to the media on a stationary bike.

An injury to Williams has not been mentioned until he missed practice on Wednesday, though it seems to be a simple case of a veteran player getting a day off to start the week. After practice, it was revealed that it's an ankle injury, and one that the defensive tackle does not expect will keep him out of practice on Thursday.

The other players held out of practice were all to be expected. Guard Chad Rinehart did not participate, even though Chan Gailey said his calf injury had improved over the past two days. The head coach also said Rinehart had a chance to play. He was joined by Mark Anderson, Spencer Johnson, Cordy Glenn and Kraig Urbik. All four are likely to miss the team's next game against Arizona.

On the positive side, the Bills saw free safety Jairus Byrd taking part in practice. On Monday, Gailey said Byrd would have to miss Wednesday's practice but still had a decent chance of being ready for Sunday. Those odds have likely improved with being able to partake in the Wednesday session. He suffered a chest injury against San Francisco.

Keep checking back for the latest on the injury front as the week goes along.
