Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- In their final practice of the week before the players have four days off in a row, the Buffalo Bills saw six players not participating in the session.
The group is headlined by defensive end Mario Williams, who had a procedure done on his wrist. He’s not expected to miss any games. Also included are defensive end Mark Anderson (knee), left tackle Cordy Glenn (ankle), guard Chad Rinehart (ankle), cornerback Terrence McGee (knee) and left guard Andy Levitre (undisclosed).
Levitre is the only semi-surprise of that list, but it could very well just be a case of giving him a rest day heading in to the four-day break. He is the only player to have taken every offensive snap for the Bills this season. Chan Gailey said, "We rested Andy today. He had some extra work done on his so we just held him to give and extra day’s rest. That’s where you try to take care of these little things.” Levitre will practice on Monday.
After head coach Chan Gailey said there was a good chance that both Kraig Urbik and Glenn would be ready for the Houston game, Urbik was indeed participating on Wednesday.
Cornerback Ron Brooks, who was placed on injured reserve with the designation for return, practiced once again on Wednesday. The Bills can bring him back on the active roster on Wednesday, October 31 if they so choose. Gailey likes Brooks progress the past few weeks, “He’s come along, he’s had no setbacks whatsoever, so that’s a positive too. How much he knows and how much he can catch up, that’ll be a determining factor, but physically he’s fine.”
After practice Gailey said, “Cordy, Kyle and Kelsay did some of the walk through stuff, but didn’t do the full speed stuff, but they participated in practice. The guys that didn’t participate in practice at all were Levitre, Terrence McGee and Mario. Gailey added, “Urbik did everything today. He did, he worked today.”
With Cordy Glenn getting close to playing, is there a chance Chris Hairston could get some time at RT for Erik Pears. Pears has struggled at times according to Gailey, “He’s been hot and cold. He was hurt early and was starting to round back into shape, didn’t play as well this past game as he had played in previous games, but I think looking at last year, knowing what he’s capable of and I expect him to bounce back this week. Last week was probably one of his lowest production games.” As far as plugging in Hairston as the starting RT Gailey said, “No, but to give him playing time, there, we might think about that.”
The Bills have the next four days off due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed ahead of the 2011 season. They'll get back to work with practice on Monday.
