Bills' Mario Williams not practicing Monday

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- Following a procedure on his ailing wrist during the team's bye week, Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams said on Monday that he expects to be ready for their game against the Houston Texans.

As for the first practice of the week, Williams was not amongst the on-field participants. The defensive end, who has just 3.5 sacks through the first seven games, was in the weight room according to team's official website.

"It doesn’t look like there’s any residual, but you know things pop up, but I think it’ll be fine come Wednesday, I hope," said head coach Chan Gailey. "We’ll get him back at practice and, you know, hopefully he doesn’t miss a beat. I mean, hopefully he’s better. I mean, that’s why we did it."

Joining Williams on the non-participant list were defensive end Mark Anderson (knee), cornerback Terrence McGee (knee) and guard Chad Rinehart (ankle). Last Wednesday, Gailey said Anderson had a chance to be back for the Houston contest. He updated the pass-rusher's status on Monday.

"It’s going to be close," Gailey remarked. "We’ll see if we can get him back on the field Thursday. If he can’t make it Thursday, then no, but if we can get him on the field Thursday, then maybe."

Gailey said the same about two other players that have missed some time due to ankle injuries, and both were out on the practice field Monday. Right guard Kraig Urbik and left tackle Cordy Glenn both took part in the session on Monday, with Urbik even taking reps with the first team. The expectation is for Urbik to be ready for Sunday's game.

It appears that the Bills may bring Glenn along a little more slowly. The rookie left tackle only took repetitions with the second team in the 20 minutes of practice that were available to the media.

"I was very encouraged with what he did on the field today," Gailey said. "We’ll see how he is tomorrow. This was the first time he’s really worked, so we’ll see how he is tomorrow, but I was encouraged by what happened today."

Second-year player Chris Hairston remained as the first-team left tackle during that portion of practice.

Left guard Andy Levitre missed the team's only practice on Wednesday following a bye week "procedure" on his knee, but was back and taking first team reps as the Bills kicked off practice on Monday.
In the case of McGee, the head coach said the veteran cornerback has been struggling to come back from the Bills' last contest against the Tennessee Titans, and they'll continue to give him as much time to rest as he needs.

Two players not technically on the active roster, but are eligible to practice, took part in the session Monday as well. Cornerback Ron Brooks (foot) and tight end Mike Caussin (knee) were doing drills during the individual portion of practice.

Brooks was placed on injured reserve with the designation for return in the week leading up to the Bills' first game of the season. The team can add him to the active roster on Wednesday, but would have to cut someone or place a player on injured reserve to open up a spot.

Gailey remarked that a spot for Brooks could come with placing Rinehart on season-ending injured reserve, and that "everything is looking that way," but they'll make the final determination later in the week.

With Caussin practicing, the Bills now have a 21-day window to determine if they will add him to the active roster. If they do not make a move by Monday, November 19, he will remain on the physically unable to perform list for the remainder of the year. Caussin suffered a torn ACL near the end of the season in 2011. He has also changed his number from 83 to 80.

Gailey will address the media following Monday's practice. Keep checking back to WGR Sports Radio 550 and WGR550.com for all the latest information.
